Michael, it is easy to get the bug. And the shows for the largest part are fun.
As for that bad beat, Charmy was awesome in the way she handled herself. Sitting right next to her I totally felt her pain, the initial hope that a bad beat jackpot had been achieved, and then the information this cardroom doesn't have one. (
Bottom line she buckled down, worked hard and left with a profit!
I wound up the two nights making profit of $560 Friday night and $255 Saturday for $805 total. As I don't play all that often, maybe once every month or two it was a lot of fun.
It is so strange how shows can be different. My Sacramento ANA was super, Baltimore totally sucked, Tukwila was super, and Santa Clara was the best one ever for me. I totally give up predicting these things or setting a goal because you can't right now in this market. Now the dilemma is what to do in November for me. Santa Clara, which is less expensive for me and where I have just had a great show, or Baltimore where the cost is a lot higher and my recent shows have been terrible yet everyone says should be good! I'll contemplate that for awhile.
Thanks for so many of you stopping by. Stealer, CrazyHoundDog, Lance and others. While I was in and out of the table while working the floor since I have some help, it was great seeing a lot of you. If I missed you this time we will catch up next time.
And Charmy thanks for the fun company at Bay101 along with your reports. It was a blast with you and G.
Glenn, thank you for your kind words about my bad beat - it did sting, and I think I was in shock for a few hands after wards, but you just have to take a deep breath and keep plugging away! However, it is a something I will not likely forget for a long time!
Regarding how the Santa Clara show went, I agree, it is so very hard to gauge how a show will turn out - there are so many variables. And it is strange how it can go so well for one dealer yet be a terrible show for another. Many dealers feel if they aren't selling much at a show, then they try to "buy" their way out of it by finding some nice coins to buy for inventory. But if a dealer can't do either at a show, then that is something to be considered in determining whether future shows at that venue is worthwhile for that dealer.
Of course, we also have to take into consideration other aspects such as sales tax issues for that state, the cost of traveling to that show, the amount of table fee, security, the convenience of airports, shuttles/taxis, etc., and the cost of lodging and meals, etc. Like playing poker, sometimes it's just a plain old gamble!
For me, I really like the Santa Clara show and like Glenn, it is a lot less expensive to attend this show than Baltimore. But for me Baltimore has been a steadily increasingly successful show and the Santa Clara show seems to be going the other direction, so even though I originally felt I would do the Santa Clara show in November, I have now decided to attend the Baltimore show instead.
"even though I originally felt I would do the Santa Clara show in November, I have now decided to attend the Baltimore show instead."
Dang! Palm trees swaying, soft sand under your feet, waterfalls of mai tai's with those cute little umbrellas tumbling down... and you're gonna go to Baltimore? In November? Sigh.
Always an entertaining read... Great reports & follow up! I'm extremely jealous of some of your lifestyles. If I had taken up the hobby just a few years earlier before the wife, kids & mortgage I'd be a travelling coin show junkie in a heartbeat.

(I see Don Rincor there almost every year. But he might be combining it with a vacation or something.) I think it's usually a pretty lousy show...
