let's save some money on ebay.. a collaboration

i see references to 'ebucks', 'ebates', promo codes, etc. and i have no idea how they work

did i get an email about a way to lower my final value fees? was it real?

i've heard there's a way to cut down your paypal fees if you do more than a few thousand a month in transactions?

anyone have some tips or tricks? maybe we can all learn something and save some money

i buy plenty of stuff on ebay, i'd love to get a percentage off here and there
i sell on ebay for a living... i'd LOVE to cut those final value fees down (and are they really raising the $50 max to $100???)
i get paid through paypal constantly.. do they always have to get 2.9%? (it used to be 2.5% after $3000 but not anymore?)

i'm sure there are threads scattered here about this stuff, but are they current? how about a consolidated thread about all the possible ways to keep ebay & paypal out of our pockets!

    Its worse.

It's 2.9% + 30 cents which chews up and spits out smaller transactions.
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

If one starts with $100 and sends it to smoeone else and you keep doing that back and forth, how many trips would it take until PP had it all?

When buying things on eBay, I've been using Mr. Rebates which is currently giving out 3% off on eBay. Plus when you sign up they give you $5.

Sure, there's a catch. Money can only be withdrawn from your Mr. Rebates account in amounts of $10 or higher. Any rebates you earn are pending for 90 days before they are able to be withdrawn. But once you've waited the 90 days and have over $10, you can withdraw it straight to your paypal account. Only works for eBay auctions and Buy it Now transactions, doesn't work with best offers. Just need to click through from Mr. Rebates to eBay before you click buy it now, or before you pay for your auction. Pretty easy and so far it's saved me a few bucks image

Not only works for eBay, but many other online stores. Just got 1% back on a Best Buy purchase yesterday.

On top of that, when you refer people you get a small referal bonus. For example, if someone you referred gets a $1 rebate, you would then get a $.20 bonus to your account. Here's the link and if you sign up I think I'd get some of that referal bonus which would be sweet image

    Mr. Rebates

In addition to that website, I also pay everything through PayPal using a credit card that gives me cash back. Get an additional 1-2% that way.

To save $$$ when selling on eBay, becomming a powerseller is about the only thing I know of. Good luck.

I have gotten in the habit of checking BST before eBay.

I think there is a lot of room for improvement for the volume and diversity of offerings on the Darkside BST. The paper money BST is better, but very weak in Darkside notes. Darkside in general is pretty slow on the forum!

Come on HRH - get that Paris office cranking!

Starting with $100 and subtracting fees of 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction, you'd be down to zero after 80 transactions.

If you do many Ebay transactions every month open an Ebay store. It does help with
picture costs (12 free per listing). Maybe more advantages, so check it out.

Same thing could be said of taxation of a dollar. You earn a dollar, and get 80 cents after its been taxed. Then you spend that 80 cents on a soda, of which 7 cents are taxed on that. Then the store owner takes that 73 cents and is taxed immediately on whatever profit he made on the soda, plus the sales tax applied to whatever he buys with the remainder......and so on and so forth.

  • EBay and Pay Pal are the winners in this game and we all know it, they know it. Ths BST board
is a Great Help to all of us and perhaps if the Keepers of the Board where to do a few
upgrades to it like seperate into different categories like: denomination, buyers, sellers
and such like that it would help us out. In turn they could make it available to PCGS paying
members only then we could get coins graded and listings would be searched easier and PCGS would
have more income to improve the BST. I know I would pay more for my membership to have
an easier way to look for something on the BST.

So aside from the obvious loss in fees, how much do you suppose it would cost PP to process 50 "gift" transactions between two account holders.
