1972 Ike with highly reflective surfaces

Picked up this at the Santa Clara show. The obv and rev are quite reflective. The edge is normal copper. Would mercury do this?

I suppose it's possible. Does it feel greasy? Almost Slimey? If so, then I suppose it could be mercury although I would expect the Mercury to spill over onto the edges.

On the other hand, it could also have been polished up.

More than likely, its just been polished or buffed.
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

Buffed with jewlers rouge. You used to see a lot of 1936-42 proof sets in Capital holders that were actually business strikes that were polished the same way.

  • Looks polished and most likely was removed from a bezel used as a key chain fob.

Thanks guys. It doesn't feel greasy so polished it is. Who ever it was did a good job on it. Got all the corners and crevices.
