Going to DC with the wife and daughter next week. What coins(if any) are currently on display at the Smithsonian? Also, in what gallery? Thanks, Wayne

I went in Dec. 2009 to view the coins at the Smithsonian. At that time it was located at the National Museum of American History (Kenneth E. Behring Center) on the 1st floor. Here's a thread with pics I took during that visit.

I saw a dime on the floor in the Smithsonian once. It was no longer on display after I saw it. image

Are they still displaying the '33 St. Gaudens? There are some neat coins there... but no where near what they should have. Cheers, RickO

Surprisingly the displays sometimes have only a few visitors...Technology, as I like to call it, has some other interesting non-numismatic stuff.Send pictures!

I was there last year for Thanksgiving. That little room filled with coins is amazing!

Here are some pictures from my posts. (frnklnlvr took better shots, though)

I thought Bush privatized the collection. Sold it to Goldmans Sachs at spotimage

They have a monster display downstairs. Many of the coins from the PCGS Million Dollar Coin Club...some of the most famous U.S. rare coins. This was suppose to be a three year display so they should all be there...

    1913 Liberty nickel, 1849 $20, 1933 $20, ultra rare patterns, 1854-S proof $20, 1822 $5, and on and on.

Have fun, take pictures, take notes, read up on the coins before hand...it's a little corner of coin heaven.

Thanks David and all. I wasn't sure because I know a lot of them were put away in storage years ago.
