I think that No Motto era Liberty Quarter Eagles...

in mid-upper grade circulated condition are a very attractive buy in the current market. I am excluding the C and D coins from this discussion as they are always expensive. Otherwise, you can get a lot of coin and a lot of history for your buck. I am not sure why I am starting a thread like this, but feel free to comment or post a photo of one of these if you have one.

This is one of my favorites:

Would it be out of line to ask what the approximate price range is for a coin that lovely? (Can't post one. My only two and a half is a lowly indian.)

I had an 1886 $2½ Quarter Eagle PCGS 55 CAC arrive today from "She Who Must Never Be Named". I don't have any pics as she just posted it Sunday night with no pics and I can't take any.

As I am now dipping my toe in gold, I wish I had the know how to properly grade and purchase raw gold coins. I am buying all the books I can on gold, try to study up.

Although I'm not really a fan of the dime-size quarter eagles - that is a SWEET COIN!

I particularly like the (gold) coins from the 1840s - they're a lot rarer than most people think.

I have been buying pre-1870 circulated NO, Philly, and SF quarter eagles for as little as $300 and always under $1000.

    Here's another favorite:

I'm very pleased, brother. Lots of meat was left on that bone. I was sure to send her a thank you note.

These are cool looking little coins. Here is a well worn 1850 I picked up recently. I have a slabed AU58 1857, but can't find a pic of it

I agree that your 1849 quarter eagle is very attractive. image

Agreed. I bought this for under sheet, and it got a gold CAC sticker to boot!

Never got the hang of posting images on here, so you'll have to click the link to see this, one of the scarcer quarter eagles. Graded AU 53.

Another series that I now like, that I didn't know about before.

Coin collecting depresses me more and more as I realize there are more and more series that I really like.

I may have to acquire one of these.....and another.....and another......

    Digging that '59-S.

I've got a '43-O in 55 that is awesome, and has a Steicher pedigree... sorry no pics.

Lots of great looking coins. Dont know much about this niche, what is the rational behind circ vs. MS? Taking a look at the price guide, they are obtainable at not too high a price for the more common dates.

To me, they are more interesting and less expensive. Here's a Dahlonega coin so that we have all of the mints represented:
