Believe it or not, I actually do NOT have a coin with a space theme per se on it (except for OH. and FL. quarters, neither of which are imaged). I guess you'll just have to settle for flown items from the first Shuttle flight and pictures signed by John Young, the Commander of the first flight...
My family took a summer vacation to Kennedy Space Center in early July, 1969. I believe this is where I got this bank. Also have some family snapshots of Apollo 11 on the launch pad. Great vacation....
one of the coolest things i have from the Space Shuttle program dates to about 1960-1961.
i bought an old dresser in the early 1990's and was cleaning it up and throwing away the newspaper that lined the drawers. they were dated around 1961 and contained an article about the new Space Program, in particular about a concept for a re-usable Space Vehicle. they had this huge mock-up/picture/artists conception of a craft that looked nearly identical to the Shuttle with a small group of Astronauts standing in front of it. the craft was called The Dyna-Soar although i might have the spelling wrong. if i can dig it out there may be an archived copy online somewhere.
imagine that, almost a decade before we even went to the Moon and they already had conceived the Space Shuttle Program.

Actually the Dyna-Soar project was a USAF project that would have carried 1 passenger. It was SUBSTANTIALLY smaller than the Shuttle ended up being, and had NO civilian intent, so while pure aerodynamics forced it to look somewhat the same as the Shuttle, there were major differences.
Me too! I have never seen this before...I guess I need to go look that up to see what the heck that is... >>
It is the 1992 Columbus Quincentenary Proof Silver Dollar issued for the 500th anniversary of Columbus discovering America. Very cool design with the half Space Shuttle Discovery and half Santa Maria. I recently had it cut up into a 25-piece puzzle which is sort of fun
