1814 CBH newp for my set........Comments welcome.

Here is a 1814 CBH newp that I was happy to add to my set for various reasons.
The TrueView doesn't show the luster at all, in fact, it makes the coin appear much darker than it really is.
But the bottom pic (not mine) does show the luster a little better, IMO, to warrant the AU55 grade from PCGS.
Comments, opinions welcome.

<< <i>A classic coin in AU raises the question re whether one prefers an original skin with some mint luster shining through, or a dipped coin showing more luster. I prefer the former, though based on what I have seen, the TPGs seem to prefer the latter. >>
I happen to agree with you regarding prefering an AU coin with original skin and less luster showing through (if that's the case), but with this particular CBH, I bought it because of the variety.
However, when it comes to choosing CBH's for my set, it all boils down to eye appeal. If it doesn't have "THE LOOK" I'm after, it's not gonna happen......again, that is, unless it's a tough variety and/or grade to find, as in this case.
Looks like it has a lot of character. Are those adjustment marks or planchet roller streaks?
Trueviews tend to illustrate colors better than luster, don't they?
Lance.
It is also much more rare to see planchet adjustment marks after about 1806 or 1807.
I would say it is an AU-55.
Neat!

Could be either I guess...

FYI, the 1814 O-105a Single Leaf is a tough CBH variety to find, especially in AU and above.
As for the reverse marks, I believe they are roller lines.

Yes Lance, I happen to agree with you.
If you have a coin that has any kind of color, I think Phil tries hard to bring it out, sometimes at the expense of not showing the luster.
However, in general, I believe that it is VERY tough to illustrate true luster in a pic. After all, doesn't the term "cartwheel luster" imply rotating a coin to show the luster?
So, how can one really capture luster in a two dimensional image, right?
Just my two cents.
The Single Leaf die states are all tough to find in solid AU grades, and very popular with those collectors that want them.
Very nice. I like the look and the grade seems to be close. I could see it at 55 in a different holder. Very solid as is.

I'm quite happy with it, although I would love it even more if it had some nice, original colorful toning.
Either way, she's a keeper!!
