I have to admit, though, that it is more creative than a lot of PMD's that I've seen passed off as errors!

I sent him "info? yeah its man made"

    heres his reply:

Have you ever seen any other coins like this? Next question is why would/could do it without leaving marks or some type of filler. Anything you can share would be great.
    Thanks, Brian

Is that a die crack running from the tail on the 9 to the rim?

Probably a shim punch used. I'd think you wouldn't have to be an expert on coins to know that one was a fake.

Will be interesting to see if the seller pulls it.

How can a coin man of his caliber call it an error in good conscience? image

Obvious fabrication that wouldn't fool any person with even minimal experience in the coin hobby.

In this case, to even infer it could be an error, is gross fraud.... not sure why anyone would do this, but an obvious fabrication. Cheers, RickO

With a good, sharp shim punch, you can make very clean cuts. As far as his remark about leaving marks, you can see the pushed out marks on the one side. Shame that someone will probably get ripped off.

I have no idea how that was made. I know its PMD but that's all I know. How
did someone get the reverse faces onto the front? Rim punches make nice circles
but they would not transfer the reverse to the obverse, would they?

Punch it out, flip the plug over and press it back in. You can see how the metal looks melded next to E PLURIBUS UNUM. I'd bet thats whats holding it in place. Looks like someone got bored at their machinists bench one day. My Dad a couple of those Morgan dollar snuff boxes when he was bored once.
