  • Extreme heat could cause the bubble on the reverse and would explain the color/corrosion.

    I thought it was post mint damage, the only thing that has me guessing is how would you create the bubble on the reverse without marking the obverse.

    Looks like a 'dug' coin.... environmental damage...perhaps a poor planchet to begin with, then aggravated by temperature/moisture extremes. Cheers, RickO

    Fire in a fish tank damage. The fish were operating their secret "cold fusion" reactor and someone dropped in a half dollar.

    Definitely a fire. Softens the surface and allows tiny air bubbles between the core and the clad layer to expand and push the surface up into a bubble.
