What can't you stand about a coin?

I just saw a piece on line that I thought I might be inteterested in, but when I enlarged it there was a portion of the toning with a fingerprint, that killed it for me. Is there a condition aspect about a coin that turns you right off to it???

I'm with you on the fingerprints. That's a deal breaker for me.

I can't stand how I go on heritage to find a nice f/vf bust dollar and i find the aboslute perfect one, in a circ cam vf20, and I'm about to bid on it when I notice the rim ding at 5 o clock, so many f/vf bust dollars have a little ding that detracts from being a perfect coin

Hairlines and pin scratches are my bane. Other forms of abrasion to include many dings and hits don't bother me as much, though.
  • 1) Spots.

    2) A chipped, overly scratch, and/or abused NGC or PCGS holder with sticker residue. I despise a messy holder.

Biggest coin turnoff? Anything made of gold or anything like the golden dollar that the mint tried to make look like it was made of gold.

Second biggest? Anything featuring a likeness of the tyrant Lincoln.
Just because I'm old doesn't mean I don't love to look at a pretty bust.

Any black spot, no matter how tiny, and/or fingerprints. I can't count how many times I've seen a coin advertised as "problem-free", only to then notice an obvious black spot on the obverse upon examination. Ecchh!

Black spots are usually the universal deal breaker for me. Those coins in my collection that have them are on the "upgrade me" list.

Fingerprints are an immediate disqualifier. I simply can't stand them no matter how nice the coin's other qualities are.

    Fingerprints
    Gouges
    Holes
    so-called "MONSTER TONING!!!!"
Irregular toning from one coin having resting on another or one side toned radically differently from the other, etc
    bent coins
