Sorry if this has been covered before.

I was watching a History Channel special on the LOC, they photograph all of their photos and documents for archival using an 88 mega-pixel camera. Yes 88, not 8.8...how long would it take to load an auction catalog online if every image was 88MB. Woof!

It's fun to go through their online archives (for research, to illustrate a book, etc.). Sometimes you can click on a 90 Kb thumbnail image . . . to get to a 500 Kb medium-sized JPG . . . and clicking on that leads you to a ginormous 123 Megabyte TIFF! lol

Coins, maybe not... but I'm sure they have some numismatic content.

They have GW's diaries, maybe he talks about the 1792/93 coinage. They say most of the entries are like..."It's Tuesday and the sun is shining"...have to read 10,000 pages to find the comments on half-dismes. image

As with most research, you have to wade through a lot of ordinary material to find the bits important to you

...and from what i've seen there so far it's gonna take a lot of wading. image

    Here's a Cent-related one from just about 150 years ago (March 4, 1861)
