  • My only question is why are they pumping out these zincolns at such a high rate? Last year with over 4 billion and now this year already over 700 mil and it's only March? The only thing I can think of is they're anticipating the public pulling the copper cents out of circulation due to the metal value, which IMO, has already begun. I did a roll search about a week ago of a bank box with a general ball park estimate between 15-20% were pre-'82. Some rolls yielded only in the single digits.

True...but anyone who would illegally melt the Prez bucks instead of the cents for copper content over face value would be a moron image

The produce to meet demand. That is why production drops in a recession or depression. As for the cents, the demand is high because these are lost, thrown away, thrown in jars, and far less frequntly returned to circulation than other denominations, excepts ahlfs and dollars. But unlike halves and dollars, cents are givn in change in most cash transactions.
