If I post a picture of a coin here, is it okay for another memeber to repost it in another thread?

I ran across another member posting a scan of a coin I found, without asking nor attributing it to me, is that okay? Once I post picture here, is it no longer my image but the boards?
I had a rare Jefferson nickel I searched years for, YEARS and when I located an example out of a bag of coins I came here to brag. Fast forward a few years later and a thread was created about how to identify a variety by a die marker. The die marker isn't exactly a secret, but is only mentioned really in specialty books. Without notice or attribution the board member posted my coin and shared the PUP with everyone. I do cherry pick die varieties from dealers, but in doing this he showed some of the dealers I do frequent how to identify the variety so it no longer become for sale. It is done and not going to cry over spilled milk but was the image mine to say yes or no to?

<< <i>As far as I'm concerned, anything posted here once is fair game for other threads >>
I agree. I don't see the big deal about this...only that the other member could have at least given you credit or referenced your previous thread in their thread.
If you post a picture to brag, then that is the value you put on it.
If you post a picture to teach, then it shouldn't matter, as long as someone else isn't selling the picture.
It would make sense for most websites to have a statement, somewhere along the lines of joining up, that posted pictures either become the right of that website or else can be reused on that website without notice.
Don't post in the public domain what you don't want shared.
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
Anyway, while scrolling back through our PM history, I saw this picture (presumably his), and it made me ROFL.

agree. >>
And as long as everyone has their clothes on.
<< <i>Speaking of purloined photos, I was just going back through PM history to research a past transaction with adamlaneus. (I sold him one of my favorite Roman coins three years back, and now I want to see if he'll sell it back to me.)

Lord, can I use that photo as a night light??
Now if the coin is for sale or very valuable and someday might be for sale, then re-using it and spreading it across the internet might be by nature negative.
That is why some sellers say "picture on request". They may have had this happen, a thread get started, and a "fresh" coin they were selling go viral.

One problem is that technology is moving faster than legislation. So a lot of questions are unanswered. Like, is it okay to display a picture you took of a coin you no longer own?
Personally, I enjoy shooting photos and sharing them so no biggie to me. But Ansel Adams may have issues if you copy and print his photos for display in your home or office, and I get that.

This one seems like a no-brainer. Still your picture unless you work something out with transferring the rights along with the coin.
A couple of years ago I posted a scan of an overlay of Morgan clashes. A while later I joined another group and reposted the scan. A member of that group thought I had stolen his scan, but in reality, he had stolen mine.....

It depends. Were they (a) simply linking your site and using your hosted picture in their post, or did they (b) copy the picture from you, host it themselves, and post it as if it were theirs? To me, there's a subtle but important difference. If it were the former, they were perhaps in bad taste for not asking your permission. If it were the latter, I would say you have a good argument for copyright infringement.
All that said, it is my opinion, that PCGS' term related to the posting of pictures on this forum only applies to pictures uploaded to PCGS and/or for which the owner has a right to duplicate and retransmit. Simple {IMG} links are not necessarily free for their use and duplication because the owner of said pictures (rather than the poster) may have not agreed to the terms of the PCGS agreement. If the owner has an argument with PCGS or the person who reposted their pics is debatable, but if the owner of said works did not grant the poster the right to redistribute they have a very good argument for copyright infringement, IMO of course.
Edit: Nachos are good too.
