I buy this 1806/5 Bust Half on ebay and seller sends me a.....

Seller sends me a 1806/5 quarter. Given the quarter is worth about 2.5x the half, I'd have to call this a rip. Have you ever received a coin and its as exactly as pictured/described but the wrong denomination? Now the dumb part is that I didn't even realize it was a quarter until about 3 weeks after I received it!

The correct thing to do would be contact the seller, inform them of their error and return the coin requesting that the original order be satisfied IF they sent the WRONG coin.
However, if the seller inadvertantly listed the quarter as a half dollar and the coin pictured in the listing was in fact the coin you received, then you win!
The name is LEE!
In the end everybody got the coin they paid for and no negs for the seller , life goes on as before.

Wow you must be fun to stand behind in a register check out line if your paying with pocket change!
I did once get a PCGS Morgan instead of an NGC Morgan. It was a common date. Seller had misplaced the one in the auction so he sent me a slightly nicer one. I was happy.

...I'd have to call this a rip...
I think he already answered your question.
That said, was it the coin in the pictures? With the 25 C. on it?
wondering who he sent the quarter to. Contact him to be sure. If he's happy with the deal and
sent you the coin he meant to send then all's okay.

edited to add... my mistake- the error was in your favor. No need to punish the guy further.
But that is just me

<< <i>I had a lady come in to the shop the other day and had a Lg diameter capped bust quarter in the half slot. i corrected her and paid her accordingly for the quarter, quite a bit of money difference. However, I have to be honest and say in this situation on e-bay, i would probably have just kept it as a score. >>
How is ebay any different might i ask ?

therefore the sale is upheld, no parties damaged in the transaction.......case closed......what is next on the docket for today ? >>
Actually, under contract law, there was no "meeting of the minds".

Would your response be the same if you bid on a quarter, but received a half instead?

"No harm, no foul" only works when you get something better than expected. When it goes the other way, you holler "SNAD!", send the coin back and neg the guy.
At least, that's the way it appears to work, based on the responses I've read here over the years.

Not even close to a rip....it was seller error and should be rectified.
I wouldn't be able to sleep if I considered this is a rip and kept the quarter. However, different people deal with things in different ways.........
and you got the item pictured, then that falls into the
seller don't know what they got so I might get a good deal category
especially since you didn't know what you got either
