Obverse looks great, could be VF. What is going on between STATES and AMERICA?

Looks like it to me. I don't care for the overall look of the coin. Looks to have had a cleaning.

Why would CAC sticker a cleaned coin that retoned? The only way I understand a coin will tone is if it has some luster left or it has been cleaned which re-exposes virgin metal to the air. As a VF, there ain't no way that still had luster left.

Sorry, I don't want to rain on anyone's parade. Congrats though on the green bean, because now it's a big statement of market acceptability regardless if someone has an opinion like mine.

Nice, whenever I see a thread that includes the words "NEWP" "Toned" "Half" or any reference to a date between 1795 and 1807, I know its you.image

That's a tougher date, and I'm guessing it looks decent in hand.

  • I like it AnkurJ its a f15 so I am confused as to the luster
comments? I guess the idea is it wont tone if the original patina
    is in tact?

If the coin is worn beyond XF, there should be no original patina left. Gone. Kaput.

Probably had a dip and sat in an album. She is still very purdy! And JA liked her image

are we confusing patina for luster? it is not uncommon to find lower grade DBHE's with luster in the devises and sometimes a little more. I don't think anyone can rule out luster from these pics. Sure, she may not have original skin but nothing harshly done that I discern. I would venture that is a strike through on the reverse, but really can't be sure.

Small 3's can be tough. I like this one!

I'd like to see a regular, in hand picture in natural light. From the way the light is bouncing, it looks a little shiney, and the toning, secondary

there's the point in her neck that looks like it's perhaps a carbon inclusion, perhaps a punch mark, would like to see a magnification

the area on the reverse looks like corrosion, or perhaps struck-through.

F15 as a grade looks about right, and the small three is a better variety, though not too scarce

In spite of its various flaws, I do find it strangely attractive...
