This is coin related as it's an actual 1923-1925 circa rare coin dealer store card advertising token.

There is an amazing amount of coins with nude art on them, and also a great many 'altered' coins. About a year ago, I received a large cent that had the 'One Cent' altered to say something else. Cheers, RickO

On a serious note the coin has a very pleasing look to it. The composition is well executed, it is very nicely stylized (Art Nouveau I would think.) Whoever designed it was a master (No pun intended.)

I too believe the coin represents a mother and child. I believe they are naked to show that they are without pretense and are unguarded. They are entirely opened up to the other (emotionally and metaphorically, not physically) and are enjoying the time spent with one another completely, with nothing hiding (no lies, no reserves and no hidden agendas.) The mother is spending the time illuminating the child's mind, as represented by the lamp, and providing the instruction and resources needed for him to continue sucessfully in his intended path (represented by the book of coin knowledge on her lap.) I also think the plants directly behind the child's head represent growth, youth and a mind that is well on it's way to numismatic maturity.

And on a lighter note....that is one HUGE monetary unit!

Composition and execution are far better than anything the mint has made for a long time -- and this was only for a store card! Do we know if the design was a "stock" item that would have been reused for whomever wanted it on a coin or medal, or was it made specifically or exclusively for this dealer?

Mother and child?? I thought it was the Goddess "illuminating" (ie. teaching) the youth (hence the lamp), similar to the Ed. note??

It's allegorical---HISTORY INSTRUCTING YOUTH is printed below the engraving. So that would be a teacher and her student.

Appropriate for that note - so with the medal, it's the Goddess Numismita instructing the youth regarding what he can get for his money?? image
