  • I sold quite a few full rims with letters showing, along with the AG & G's for scrap when silver was at $28
The AG's were slightly better dates, but I couldn't find anyone that cared.

Good point. When silver was half its current price slightly better date AG-G slugs probably brought small premiums. Now with silver doubled the demand for those as collectibles is certainly no higher. It's strictly the silver content. In essence rising silver price will continue to swallow up coins with increasing premiums. When do common date Fine Barber halves get swallowed by silver such that they carry essentially no premium?

With silver at over $33 an ounce virtually all are going to be melt value pieces.

I sold 3 rolls of AG-VG on Friday at a little over melt. 5 letters should still be worth a little more...I did not sell any 5 letter coins at melt. When/if silver hits $40, some of the 5 letters might go then.

Melt is current pricing for the commons. Nice VG examples are harder to come by though the market does not factor that in. I would list the vg8 or better halfs in a BST post they may sell for a bit more that way.

I have to echo the others and state that the numismatic premium for these pieces has been overtaken by their bullion content.

Among the junk Morgans and Walkers and pre-64 Silver I turned in recently were some lower Barbers including a nice original VG10 07-s Quarter and lightly cleaned 03-P Half in VG10 that I was happy to get $6/12 for.
    And I collect those things.

The problem with Barber Halves in lower grade is that an awful lot of them carry little premium in AG/G... The 02-O and 03-O carry premiums in mid grades but not in G.

I wish the junk barber sellers on ebay would melt all those da%n things so they don't clutter up the category. I can't believe that many people collect AGs. Even when I was dirt poor I collected VGs.

That is what I wanted to hear folks. I appreciate the comments. This was not a spam post, but I do have some I want to get rid of, but did not know exactly how to price them. Again, much appreciated.

definitely agree with others that they go for melt value for the non key date items in low grade condition.

Does everyone agree the same is with standing liberty quarters?

    Thanks

22 x face is a decent price for melt.
