No APMEX, no theoreticals, no eBay, and no DCARR. . . just "Thanks" . . .

DRUNNERDRUNNER Posts: 3,899 ✭✭✭✭✭

It has been the requisite 'while' since I posted one of these.

No coin pix, just a heartfelt thanks to many here on the Boards. NotSure, SNMAN, Coinlieutenant, Al (AL410), joeEbb, oreville (of course), astrorat, kryptonitecomics, Bajjerfan, and (crap, I knew I should keep a legal pad next to the computer--my a$$ is getting OLD!!) others I've forgotten but will remember in an hour.

The BST . . . tremendous. If you haven't looked there, you are shafting yourself. Keep it up. More for the rest of us. Great sellers, great numismatists, and I have yet to find any bad person (yeah, I know they exist, I am just a lucky son-of-a-gun). The 'contacts' here . . . tremendous. Hey, I REALLY try to find my own (fill in blank here with plastic holder that starts with a "D"), but 75% of the good opportunities I ever have start as a contact here (thanks joeEbb). Yeah. It means an acquisition for my collection, and many here just fire off a PM, I end up getting something I want, and they don't ask for a thing. OK cynics . . . find another place where THAT happens!!!

The information, education, and just fun . . . tremendous. RickO, lKeigwin, Keets, RYK, Lakesammmman, and others . . . great guys and I wish I had a tenth of their numismatic acumen. But I am working on it. And . . . I may yet get to Lance and take a Superbike for a peg-scrapin' ride.

My most sincere apologies if I didn't mention you for all the help/assistance'advice/fun for the last month or so. I'll edit this in a while and add you! I appreciate the Boards, the PMs, the leads, the fun, the relationships, and the camaraderie. Keep posting, taking great pix, helping all of us, and contributing to a great numismatic society here that (through all of you) becomes something greater than the cynics can attack. I learn about stuff I never even knew existed. I even respect 'dirty gold', and 'white coins' (apologies to RYK and RickO) !!! (Oh, and Lane . . . run your butt off.)

Just let me know when any of you pass through. The only way I can get even with you is a shot of 18-year-old Single Malt or a trip up to the ranch to watch the sun set on the Oregon Trail (also with Single Malt).

Bravo . . . thanks . . . and I'll now yield to the latest eBay 'block' thread . .

Hey, as Dionne Warwick once (still does, I'd think) sang, 'That's What Friends Are For' (ok, I'm too young, and yes, did have to Google it...knew there was a song with those words, but being ALMOST mid-20's, it's not a song that would come from a station on ANY of my radios, CERTAINLY NOT on my iPod!!!...lol).

Thanks for the props, Jeff....you're the best, brudda! (by the way, you say you be gettin' old, but I'm not sure I'd want to scrap with ya just yet...when that box from 'The Scooter Store' shows up, THEN I might have a go 'round with ya! LOL)

All kidding aside, thanks, it's always a pleasure dealing with a TRUE gentleman!!!
    I'll come up with something.

Thanks for the compliments. I have been outbid on two others, I try and get all I can, but occasionally (as you know) these things can get real expensive for the assigned grade. Good luck in your continued quest for the doily, they are fun to look for.

Yeah . .I think Simon is going to kill me. I wasn't going to report it or tell him, as he is an accomplished collector of the quarter denomination, but since the cat-is-out-of-the-bag . . yes, Simon, the first Washie in Census history showed up tonight. It must have only been on eBay for 10 minutes, and (with all due credit to NotSure), I pulled the trigger so fast I didn't see the date for over an hour and didn't see the actual listing for about 2. Without help, it would have been grabbed by some sleazo who would have cracked it within 10 minutes of arrival!

    Thanks NotSure . .

And Simon, I'll report to the Census in due time, but I wanted to break it to you slowly. If I ever see another though . .you are the man! Actually Simon, it is 8187606, an MS64 1937-S Washie. I am sorry you had to hear it like this, but hey, I'll try to bring you donuts at Ogden!!!

The feeling is somewhere between Pi$$ed and defeated, with just a scosh of sadness. Congrats to the Doily Runner (that's what the "D" stands for right image) A sad day for the Billet. It's really not a big deal, I'll just grab the next one that comes along...lets see...that'll be in 2013 if my calculations are correct.

No, seriously, I'm glad you got it. image I would have "thought about it" too long and lost it anyway. I do that kind of thing for some reason.

Thanks . .but I have to credit NotSure with the snag. He had a PM to me about as fast as electrons can cover the ground right after it was listed. Normally my 'finder's fee' is a shot of the good Scotch on the ranch while the sun is setting, but he qualified for a bit better than that with this one. I pulled the trigger so fast I didn't see the date or grade. I gotta' stop this . . . . . .

But hey . . .those PLs and DMPLs above still have me re-visiting this thread about every 7 minutes . . .

I would like to thank YOU, Jeff, as you have been informational and a true collector. No BS in talking to you, and that's appreciated! You got our one, and only, doily, but I am happier it is with you than with us as it was only a novelty to me and I know it has a home with you!

You're a good guy and you always like to help others learn (gee....what is your profession again? image ), so keep on making the hobby fun for all image

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
