I blame RYK!

BochimanBochiman Posts: 25,556 ✭✭✭✭✭
Today is my son's birthday (no, I don't blame RYK for that image ) and I decided to get him something numismatically focused (well, and a few other things he can actually have fun with)....
So, I haven't been able to find him any toned silver Roosies for his set and was thinking and thinking....

Then, I decided to buy him something outside of anything we have collected so far...

THIS is why I blame RYK (yeah, not his classic gold, but it was in that direction and it was due to some of his postings of his dirty old gold...but I wanted to focus it around my son, so I got the birthyear-100 thing going with this one). Bought from Harlan J Berk (thanks for the advice, Capt!):

  • Maybe 30 years ago that coin would grade AU. Looks like a fresh, lower-end Unc by today's scale. The services seem to give extra credit to fresh-looking coins like this do they not? Hell of an image too, and way to be a good pops!

    Thanks guys,

I'll relay the birthday wishes to him (he has 2 basketball games and then his birthday party at a bowling alley....I was up trying to finish up the self-slabbed coins and labels last night...ended up using the 2010 cents (new design) since I didn't have anything with the 2011 year yet image ).

Keyman64 was the first with the most correct answer so far - "nice, no matter the grade" image (to me/my son, it doesn't really matter what the grade...it's a nice looking coin and one that I hope he remembers for a long time as something special between us)

For those that did guess the grade......even though HJB took a nice photo, it is HARD, and a crapshoot, to guess the grade on a coin like this from a small photo especially....but, PCGS deemed it an AU58 (which is what I was hunting for for the last 2 months when I decided to get one of these for him). It was either going to be a $2 1/2, $5, or $10 from 1902. I wanted nice XF or AU (due to pricing).

First time I have called/bought from HJB and Dennis was very nice (and snowed under...this was last week when I called on Friday) and super to deal with. I appreciate that.

  • Nice!! The 100 year set is cool.
