I don't care about the technical grade, please grade the eye appeal...EA=?

I find myself looking for coins with eye appeal as appose to the technical grade, oh well, yes the technical grade does matter to me, but how does this weigh in with you as a collector? Do you go for the technical grade, or do you find yourself looking for something else? This coin pcgs grades ms-63 and correctly so, it has lacking details, but I feel the luster and the color more than make up for this weakly struck piece .

my first thought is that it seems like weird toning for a nickel. i am not saying it is
AT but if i had an album full of color like that it would be odd.
i would rather have something more normal for a nickel in the way of color.

If the coin looks like its picture when it is hand, I like it a lot. Of course, I like nicely toned coins and other people may not.

    different stroke.

me? it has great eye appeal because of the technical grade. Am I not answering the question or what?!

I perhaps should not answer since I'm not the type to pay more for color despite appreciating the colors. Saw a nice Morgan Larry/SeaEagle had in Baltimore with beautiful colors. I won't say which one because I'm afraid he'd try to sell it to me! I can't bring myself to intentionally pay more for color.

This one I'm neutral on because of the amount and hue of green. I do like the eye popping colors on the reverse a bit more though.

In my opinion the color more then makes up for the average strike. Its a great example and real attractive in my view.image

The weak strike kills the eye-appeal. I wouldn't pay 63 money for it.

No offense CHD as this colorful weekly struck 16-D with a spot is like Mimi from the Drew Cary show for me...

I understand what you're driving at and I'll also market grade a coin over and above its technical grade for eye appeal. But, understand, that MS63 grade is PCGS's market grade on that coin, as well. As a matter of fact, look here. "Technical grading" isn't even in their vocabulary.

I buy coins that appeal to me, often without regard for where they happen to sit in the arbitrary and subjective game we call grading.

As for the coin posted by the OP, I like it and would buy it if offered at an acceptable price.

Based on what I've seen for the last five years or so, more often than not, eye appeal seems to carry more weight than a technical grade for an individual coin. I've seen countless coins which have been bumped gradewise because of attractive color, despite contact marks in grade sensitive areas. I avoid these coins. I also avoid technically graded, ugly coins.

That is a very 'eye-appealing' coin. I like it a LOT.

That is how I have judged the coins in my colection as well. Eye-appeal. That is why when I display items, they stop people in their tracks. Also why when I sell they get buried in some nice colections to never see the light of day. Usually it is toning, but sometimes not. I like this coin a lot as it displays a unique look. Sure, I would like a better strike, but this one is a nice find and I think it is stunning.
