There's a 66* Hawaiian commem that I have been lusted over for years. It is the single nicest one I've ever seen by a wide mile. The owner actually has a 67 and I was hoping this coin would come out evenually. Not yet, I wait. MJ

<< <i>My white whale #2 would be for my secret set of 1838-1840 transitional coinage. CBH 1839 Small Letters REV to match the 1840 (o) Large letters SLH. A 1838 10$ Lib in choice VF would be nice too. >>

    Not so secret anymore. image

Mine would be the $1 Round California Fractional Gold Indian , a nice Hawaiian commem in Au58, and a nice pre-1800 Large Cent for my Type. Whales are relative. image

    << <i>Complete, matched Panama-Pacific gold set (4 pcs.), all coins in 65. >>

I just completed the set in "mostly MS-64." That is the better value IMO. The only piece I "sprang for" was the $2.50 in MS-66 because I didn't like the lower grade coins I saw. The rest are MS-64.

The $50 gold pieces are graded very conservatively by the TPGs. I have an MS-64 round that would grade MS-65 or better if you applied the standards that are used for St. Guadens $20 gold coins in MS-65 to it.

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

Mine is apparently the 1818 B-6 quarter. Here's the second one that my snipe came in 2nd place (although bumping the winner by quite a bit, in each case.

1854-S Lib $2.50 is my white whale. 1864 or 1865 Lib $2.50 come close.
  • Simple. The 1890 Indian Cent in Cameo. There are three certified by PCGS in 64, yet none, and I mean NONE seem to exist. Not on any auction, not in any registry set. They apparently don't exist...but they do.

Since i first responded things have changed greatly...

    1) The target 1873-CC dollar has since been sold.

    and

    2) We've obtained an MS 1855 dollar.
Want to buy an auction catalog for the William Hesslein Sale (December 2, 1926). Thanks to all those who have helped us obtain the others!!!

DBSE Eagle....AU or better and crusty. Way out of reach. Bill Leubke recently had a 1796 ex jewelry that did not look abused. @ $18K or so, I thought that was a very good price. But, still out of reach.

Next up are high grade 1859-O and 1859-S seated dollars. Finding an 1859-O that isn't baggy as hell is a tough challenge.
