I would hope for some level of quality control on the unc. collector versions being released after the first of the year.

A photo in Coin World showed them being dropped into tubes. I can't beging to imagine what that would do to the surface of a 5 ounce coin not to mention a slight tilt and having a sharp reeded edge hit the surface.

I'm sure grades of 67/68, and not many 69's 70 would be a miracle.
But, I was wondering how can you tell they are being dropped from a still photo?? Plus, I believe they have a smooth surface, since they have an edge inscription.

Simple, the photograph shows the mint worker holding the 10 coin tube on the table while reaching for another coin to drop in.

Self defense weapon comes to mind too. Then again, you wouldn't want to ruin the proof surfaces

Great idea. Despite the ultra-rip off APMEX prices, I'll bet (as other have said before me) that the first 1000K will be culled C___. I think that this thread will get plenty of action (unfortunately).

Pretty soon this comment might make sense, once the coins are actually released to the official distributors....
Yosemite has a small mark in the field and a few tiny ones on the edge
overall, they are an ok set.
I'm surprised that everyone is pretty much accepting of what they get now. I guess the chance of obtaining any is making people happy.

that's because PCGS folks know how to handle a coin by its edges. Working with cotton gloves causes coins to get dropped.

This is an old thread started before they wqere released.
I'm surprised no one is complaining. I just wanted to post the latest news on mine. a few marks here and there.... and the first reported milk spot. I feel so special.
otherwise, no one is really complaining about what they get. Surprising, huh?

I would prefer PCGS hold mine over empty MS70 slabs....just in case.

I've observed that spot consistently in the same place on several, including some graded by NGC as 68's...I'm thinking it's not a milk spot and perhaps some sort of die flaw.
