Heritage shipping time

Folks,
why does it take Heritage so long to ship coins after an auction? Generally I pay as soon as an invoice is posted; the next day they charge my cc; then, they wait 7 calendar days before shipping the item (based on USPS tracking info). For comparison, Teletrade generally ships the same day they charge my cc. Any ideas?

I get my stuff shipped the next day? I am a legacy member and not sure it makes a difference. I know we have benefits and there is something about shipping but i think it has to do with shipping speed, not how fast it gets shipped out... I'd have to look...

Because the company is REALLY big. They do a great job with a lot of things, but customer service and timeliness isn't the highest priority...

When a Heritage (Stacks', Bowers, etc.) auction is held away from the company's office, as was the case with the recent Heritage FUN sale, the lots don't get back to the office from the show, until later the following week. Teletrade, on the other hand, conducts their sales locally, so has the coins available for shipment as soon as the sale ends.

I suspect Mark is correct.

On the other hand, when I picked up my coins in Tampa late in the week after the auction, I was struck by the ENORMOUS pile of small priority boxes that the staff was assembling........and I doubt they were going to Dallas.

When I first started buying proof sets from the mint, you sent your money to them and got the coins in six or eight months. I know the mint and Heritage are two different entities, but still...

The way they ship is goofy. A small box inside a FedEx box inside a registered mail box. Last time they added a second FedEx box inside the registered mail box for extra "stuffing." Four boxes for one coin!

Most of your low overhead guys use a biz sized envelope with a cardboard insert.

OK, next time, I'll try an experiment - I'll wait to pay until Th or Fri and then see when they ship. If it's simply that the coins need to get back to the shop, then they should still ship on Mon/Tues. If they have some 7-day cc policy, then they'll ship on the following Th or Fri. I'll let y'all know what happens.

Typically, the coins don't get back to the office until the Wednesday or Thursday of the week following the auction. So they can't ship the Monday or Tuesday (and often, not the Wednesday) after the sale.

My experience with bidding in Heritage Signature auctions is this.... I win some lots, the invoice is posted online and an email sent within 24 hrs, I pay the invoice within a day or two using an echeck, the coins are shipped out generally about 10 - 12 days later, or sometimes a bit quicker.

Funny packaging. Keep in mind that Fed-Ex and USPS boxes are free, so there's no overhead to just use boxes for packaging...I do the same thing when shipping from shows.

I have never had any significant problems or delays with a Heritage shipment.

I am also a Legacy Client and I got my FUN purchases 3 days after auction closed. I had not even paid the invoice when the coins arrived!
