What an excellent idea for a thread. There are so many fascinating designs among modern coins. I don't have anything avant-guard, but here are some fairly modern issues.

I do not own any world gold dating past 1901, but if I were to have one modern gold coin, it would be this. I fell in love with the design when they first came out- I was a new kid collector, having started in 1976. I did briefly own a couple of these a few years back, but flipped 'em, since they really don't fit in with any of my collecting themes. I love the design, though, as I've already stated.

(Obviously, this is not mine. Picture borrowed from http://www.goldsovereigns.co.uk.)

(PS- This is the 1977 Jubilee issue, for those who didn't recognize it.)

Collector since 1976. On the CU forums here since 2001.
