Finally Finished a Set After 50 Years (added picture of set)

I just hit the BIN button on this Walker. After almost 50 years I have finally finished the set. I dug the set out a few months back and needed 4 coins to complete it. Needed 17-S obv, 19-P, 21-P, and 23-S. I know it's a low grade early years and gradually increasing as the dates get later set but it's finally complete. I can sleep at night now. I think I was 11 or 12 years old when I started this set.

I am working on my birth year set, 1948, need 3 coins to finish the set. I need a 47-P and a 47-D to finish a second set of Booker T. Washington Commems. Like to get these 2 in 66. After that I don't know, I might dig out some more old Whitman folders from my youth. The Washington Quarters might be a good move.

Isn't grade drift in these Walker sets often typical? It's obviously brought about by the expense of many of the early issues, isn't it?

What the heck, I think these circulated issues give a set a nicely different character. I know I have a number of circulated, early issues in my Walker set that I feel no immediate need to upgrade.

Buying MS coins all the time must get boring anyway.

Great job! The Washingtons might not be a bad idea. I've recently seen a lot of the earlier dates in nice circulated condition turned in for melt, so the supply shopuld be there.

When I was 11 in 1963, collecting Roosevelt Dimes was a real reach.

I finished my mom's Walker set after she passed away, and it is still
one of my most satisfying and proudest collections.

This is the kind of thing that really speaks to me as a collector. I just looked at my album and there are about 19 halves in it. Now I feel like getting more and finishing it. Well done.

I just want to offer my sincere congratulations. There is nearly NOTHING as satisfying as a long-term hunt for the proper coins, in the proper grade, with the proper look. After all the eBay stuff, the investor threads, the peripheral gobbledegook we go through, you have posted a true collector set in an old holder exactly as many here would envy. Kudos to you and I hope you have very deserved satisfaction in your accomplishment!

Thank all of you for the nice comments. The one problem I have is I purchased the 21-P in an PCGS slab and now I hate to break it out. I think it's a VG 10.
