85% of the Barber halves VF30-XF45 original, problem-free and attractively toned (and well-struck for the middle year O mints--bids will go bonkers)

I'm not saying anything else about the other steals out there, too many dealers on this forum ... image

Agree. If I knew of coins that are a steal at current greysheet prices, I would keep it quiet so that I could buy up as many as I could find without any competion from others.

Well, besides the 1857 large cent you posted, I'd say just about any nice large cent is underpriced in the greysheet, more so for the early dates. However, many of the better coins are with knowledgeable dealers and collectors, and they use auction records and CQR, so you won't be cherrypicking them anyway.

As for trying to hoard underrated pieces, it's a good idea, but tough to do in reality. Some years ago while helping others build Indian cent collections, I realized the 69/9 is an extremely scarce piece in grades over VG, and tried to buy some up. I found ONE decent coin in all that time, and prices have since doubled in the past few years for it. Great idea, but that's the problem with legitimately scarce coins - they aren't around!

If you can buy proof Indian Head Cents at sheet, they are pretty good deals. I have yet to find any at or close to sheet. They are always significantly higher.
All coins kept in bank vaults.
