Once again, it has been proven that patience is a virtue

I don't know if the above image works, but after a meticulous eight year search, I have found my AU Bust $ and and very happy with it. THE COIN IS ALL THERE, AND IT TALKS TO ME. Most of these coins are imo numismatic abortions. Cleaned, scrubbed, bluish tinged gunmetal grey which do not look quite right, the bleached coins, the other problem coins which are net graded. etc. etc. -- where's the barfbag -- is the norm for this series in this grade.

In all of this time, I only saw three coins which I liked; they were too expensive imo, and I passed on them. On one coin, I was the underbidder in a Signature Sale and I let the coin go in the live auction.

In addition to being patient, I maintained my contacts, and let people in the business whom I trust who might come across such a coin know what I was looking for and what I was willing to spend. And I waited. And I waited some more. The coin was not cheap (you will not find an original, problem-free inexpensive Bust $ in any grade), but it was priced fairly, and importantly, I got first shot at it.

Once again, the moral of the story is that if you are meticulous and keep your wits about you, unless you're looking for a finest known type coin, or close to it, you will be able to find what you are looking for at a price you think is reasonable. You don't have to get frustrated, see a coin you, like, and start to write a check to a dealer and ask "how much," if you are patient and persistent. 1802 Bust $, Narrow Date, PC AU 53 1802 Narrow Date Bust $, PC AU 53, Reverse

Wow! I've sen that look on Bust Halves, and it is very desirable, but I'm not sure I've ever seen it on a bust dollar. Congratulations. That is a wonderful coin.

Very nice! I found one I really like in AU55, but they want $11K... not sure I'm ready to spend $11K on something we really don't collect. It would be 200-year coin for my daughter.

Elcontador, for years I have read your posts looking for the right AU Draped Bust Dollar. The long Beach show reports etc.
Glad you found one that suits your tastes. I actually wondered if you would indeed find one. However, I will miss your astute descriptions of all the ones you usually sort through and pass on image. It looks like a great coin on my monitor..... although this isn't my good monitor I'm viewing it on right now. I can tell it's a nice one.

But from what I see, it gets the stman seal of approval. I know that don't mean much, but I rarely give these out to coins I see on here.

I see this quite a bit myself. And like you, I don't care for this look.

Nice Bust! Way to go and congrats.

Boy, that is some file. I guess a dial-up connection would barely load the "1802"......Thanks for sharing.

Very nice coin!! I usually stay away from AU coins because of the problems you describe.
I very rarely find an AU coin that appeals to me.

    I like that one alot.

What a great coin! That would go in my Box of 1. Maybe a Box of 2 if I had any money left.
