eBay bidder to block.
This is long, but I want to make sure all information is out there. The bidder's eBay ID is sleepingbear101010. This bidder won three auctions.
This one:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200553633990
Immediately after the auctions ended he sent me the following message about the above:
<< <i>Hi this is xxx & xxxx we won three coin from you and we have a problem with
this coin the 1/2 cent c/s braided hair coin we did'nt know their was a
braided hair 1/2 cent we thought it was a 1857 one cent pc. we couldent see
the 1/2 cent on the back of the coin, and when reading the descripion of
the coin we thought it stated one cent. this is the first time this has
happened, please remove this coin from ower list, we are very sorry for
this issue, we will pay for the other coin! please e-mail us back a.s.a.p.
again we didn't know their was a 1/2 cent until just after it was won. >>
In spite of the fact that the auction clearly describes and shows a Half Cent, I agreed to a mutual cancellation.
This one:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=370465469962
For which he left positive feedback.
And this one:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=370465469804
I then received the following message from him:
<< <i>HI THIS IS xxx & xxxx, WE RECEIVED THE COINS IN TODAYS MAIL AND THE MORGAN
DOLLAR WAS GRATE, BUT THE 1917 P .25 CENT PC. AS YOU STATED WAS A 1917, YOU
CAN'T SEE THE DATE AT ALL!!! USING A 10-20-30X POWER GLASS PC.; WE HAVE
BEEN COLLECTING COINS FOR 45 YRS AND ON E-BAY BUYING COINS FOR A VERY LONG
TIME AND WE ALSO HAVEN'T SENT BACK ANY COINS BUT ONE! OUT OF ABOUT 2000
COINS, WE DONT BUY A COIN UNLESS WE CAN PROFIT ABOUT 50% OF THE COINS VALUE
IN TODAYS MARKET UNLESS THE COIN IS VERY SCARCE! NOW THE STANDING LIB.
QUARTER NO DATE IS WORTH ABOUT $3.00-$5.00 DOLLARS, 1/2 0F THAT IS
$1.50-$2.50 IS WHAT WE WOULD PAY TO MAKE ANY PROFIT, THEN THE 1833 CAP LIB.
QUARTER IS IN A-3 CONDITION WORTH ABOUT $45.OO IN TODAYS MARKET, WE LOOKED
AT THIS COIN BEFORE WE MADE A BID BUT THE PICTURE WAS NOT GRATE HARD TO SEE
DETALES, WE THOUGHT THIS COIN WAS IN AG-8, BUT THIS COINS A-3 OR POOR COIN,
THE BOTTOM LINE IS WE PAYED $47.00 FOR BOTH QUARTERS WE WOULD OF NEVER
PAYED MORE THEN $25.00 PLEASE WORK WITH US >>
Obviously, he didn't read the description or look at the images - just as in the case of the Half Cent. Now, he's angling for a partial refund without return the coins. I don't play that game. In spite of the fact that it's clearly his mistake, I sent him the following message offering to refund upon return:
I noted very clearly in the auction description that the 1917 SLQ was dateless. We know it is a 1917 because it is a Type 1 obverse.
If you would like to return the coins, I will be happy to issue a refund once they arrive.
While that message was on the way, he sent another message as follows:
<< <i>second message; we run out of space, we give ex-feedbacks, so we are going
to try to hopefully come to agreement to resolve this issue with out
sending back the two quarters, because thats a loss for us to return
shipping and a waste of time, so if you can return the lost market value
money back into my paypal acc./ or I see you have other things listed we
collect paperweights too and we seen two of them we would like to have and
like to buy them the ones with the flowers in them are nice, so please try
to work out something as we are too, as you know we collect coins and if
you have a coin we can add more money to to offset the loss and you may
benefit from let us know please e-mail us back thank you xxx & xxxx!! >>
Now the implication is clear. He wants a partial refund or he'll neg me. Of course, he phrased it carefully enough that eBay won't see it. I reported it anyway, just because I want it on record. I responded to that message, again offering to accept a return on the coins:
As I noted in my response to your previous message, I stated very clearly in the auction description that the SLQ was dateless. I also made no
respresentation as to grade on the bust quarter. The condition was clear in the images.
I was already nice enough to let you out of your bid when you made a mistake on the Half Cent. Despite all that, I will accept these coins for return, and issue a refund as soon as I receive
them.
His response was to neg me, and file a SNAD. I called eBay, escalated the SNAD claim, and the CSR closed it and released my funds while we were on the phone.

<< <i>Sounds like a case of Paypal doing the right thing, something we don't here about on this forum very often. >>
In this case, it was eBay rather than PayPal. The CSR I spoke with was amazingly on the ball.

<< <i>Did Ebay find in your favor on the SNAD? >>
Yes.
<< <i>If so, will they remove the neg? >>
No. It doesn't meet their criteria for removal.

What a bunch of BS. I think I will watch for him selling something and then bid on it and neg him just for spite.
It wasn't a coin-related item, so I won't bore you with details as the buyer probably doesn't shop coins and likely won't ever "hit" any of the rest of y'all.
Point is, it's just another, far too typical, ebay scumbag.
Yeah, the neg doesn't fit with ebay's removal criteria. They expect the seller to workout ANY problems with the buyer, even if the buyer totally misinterprets the auction and can't be convinced otherwise.
Sorry for your neg.

Nah, don't do that. But, if you do discover his selling ID, (I'll be looking also), let me know what it is. If I can demonstrate that he's also a seller, (competitor), I might have additional leverage with eBay.

Blocked...
I think Russ is right he is probably a competitor screwing with him.
<< <i>The person is really among the worst type of scum on ebay. Thank you for the post I am glad to be warned about him. The persons feedback left is clear he extorts refunds with a threat of negative feedback. He has left a lot of neg and neutral feedback. I doubt Russ runs around the internet calling people pedophiles like you.
Hey "frank"....what was the CU ID you used to post under before you got banned and started using that alt?
<< <i>I have always wonder if a problem child has ever tried to bid on a auction that they were blocked from due to this board and what I would give to see there face after being told they were pre blocked from a random auction >>
I recently sold a set of BMW Wheels on eBay, someone on my BBL tried to bid on them, he sent me a message and I referred him to a thread on another website about him pulling an attempted scam.
Never heard back from him.
