It's an ad by some vulture law firm trolling for clients to become part of a class action against PCGS regarding the PCGS Buyback Guarantee. I have no inside info, but I wouldn't be surprised if the impetus and backing came from some unnamed coin doctors in retaliation to a well known recent case against them...

I know Mark Stephenson. He's a good guy. And I have to admit that I find it amusing that he's pursuing this type of business. I'm sure there's more to the story.

They've been in practice for three months?!

If you look at the section listing his experience, you'll see has has worked in the coin business before.

Mark D. Stephenson is my little brother. He lives in MO, has no legal or numismatic experience, and is not the same guy mentioned here.

    That just stinks out loud.

from my perspective (the Avg Collector) is that PCGS reputation is as good as any and I have never heard a story of PCGS and a collector not coming to terms on a slabbed coin. It looks like a lawyer is just trying to dip his hand into a settlement pot of money similar to insurance tactics. I am sure PCGS sets aside a claims fund or has a coverage policy and once people find out about 5 & 6 figure payouts they want their 15-40% cut of the action. The problem is that most people who own the kind of coins that a % would be worth a lawer's time mediating or representing someone, tend to know the PCGS staff and the old guard and would accomplish more with call to them than a lawyer .

    1) In Beverly Hills they don't chase ambulances, they chase limousines and Ferraris.

    2) Did anyone NOT expect some pushback from the defendants?

    3) I wonder who the expert witnesses for the plaintiffs will be.

Why? So far the level of mockery for such a legal position bodes well for PCGS (as it should).

I owned a business for 29 1/2 years, and sold it 2 weeks ago. I can speak from experience these ambulance chasers are a real PITA!!

That said, I look at his ad as a reminder to all of a still slowing economy. Because he obviously can't find "real work".

<< <i>I believe this typical ambulance chaser crap is not a even a near worry to our hosts. Their guarrantee is top notch, sure you can't pleasse evryone but by the nature of a subjective opinion they would always come out on top. This guy is just trying to drum up something in a down economy imho whether it be future nuisance lawsuit wuth the hope to settle and get something as weak and far fetched as that may sound. >>

It's kind of hard to fight the gaurentee.... PCGS must find the coin lower grade or non-authentic to get a refund. If the don't find it that way, nothing is paid back.

Agreed. I would guess that you would have to find clear evidence of PCGS acting in bad faith.
