    That is really neat!

I suppose if you are going to make a fake, you can cut some other corners as well.

I am actually surprised that they would bother with any edge lettering at all.

    Very interesting.

Very interesting indeed. When is someone going to write the definitive reference for counterfeit US coins? There are so many now it would be an interesting tome. Of course, there are so many new ones coming out the book would be obsolete by the time it was published.

A brand new book on BOGO bust halves was just released and pretty good. I was able to look through one of the reference collections used when putting the book together a few months ago. image
Want to buy an auction catalog for the William Hesslein Sale (December 2, 1926). Thanks to all those who have helped us obtain the others!!!

Funny how some of the edge lettering looks like Chinese characters at first glance- maybe because of the weird little rectangles and circles n' stuff. image

Collector since 1976. On the CU forums here since 2001.

Aside from those Bust Halves, there's work in progress to document all Seated type Bogo's, but more work is being put towards more modern series (Barber, Renaissance, etc), and several collectors have expressed interest in compiling a group of pics together to make a book. It wouldn't take much work, just time and numismatic volunteers to submit their samples. Updates would be made every few years or when there's a significant number of counterfeits which need to be added! BUT there is talk of such a publication at the moment
