    32 years in a middle school classroom and retired 5 years ago @57. Lasted two years and was going stir crazy so I got a part time job at the local flower and garden shop. Just got back from 8 weeks in Hawaii and headed to Fla next week for spring breakimage Life is good

    U.S. Army Retired (2003) and currently teach 9 classes each college term and run several small businesses. I had so much free time whenever I was in the Army! What happened?

    Retired twice (Army and federal) currently working on third (state of Oklahoma). 4 more years until I can start triple dipping.

    Really just starting my career, out of undergrad for 6 years, out of MBA for 2 plus and working through CFA program. Hoping to be retired from schooling within a year and a half. Careerwise? Full time for the forseeable future. But I like where I'm at and they don't mind if I fart around on these boards or Rick Snows website or ebay, so I can't complain.

    Ive been cheerfully self employed for about a decade now. No time clocks, no commute, no irritating boss, no back stabbing co workers

    being self employed doing something I love to do, and getting paid rather well for it........I dont know if I can really even call that "work".

    retired in 1999 at age 32... after spending 8 years helping develop what's now the worlds best selling MoAb against cancer.

    freedom lasted 4 years, spent time traveling the world and building the coin collection of my childhood dreams..

    until got married, bought another house, had 2 kids, and had to un-retire in 2003 to support the new levels of expenditure.

    and you know what? never been happier. the family's wonderful, and the new company has even more potential than the old one, and I'm holding 10 times the equity image

    I've got a year and a half to go until retirement. I could do it a few months sooner, but I'll stick around until I receive my bonus at the end of September. I'm really looking forward to it; I do more at my job than others who are a lot younger, and I've had enough of the rat race. I'll consider some part-time work 2 or 3 days a week, provided it's something that I enjoy, and is low-stress.

    PS - I think the word retirement is misulderstood. Working if you love what you are doing is where its at. Not working at something you hate is a waste of time. even if you need the money!!

    Teacher who went 30, retired, then came back full time. Legal in our state. You give up a little bit of salary but I was lucky . . .battled back for my same job. Had to sit for 6 months, but then was back . .

    I retired early (59) to take care of my father in law who moved in with us with Alzheimer's, (3 yrs) he passed away last Feb. so now FULLY RETIRED and loving it!!

    I could retire to play with coins more and be with the wife, but I am not.....

    I built a primarily fee based business that is to good to walk away from.....

    Most people I am meeting are seeking sound advice and my team has the experience and knowledge to offer it.....that comes from having been in this business 30 years.

    We manage over 450mm of client assets......our latest referral is a baskeball player from the UTAH Jazz.

    I love doing the right thing for people...its a passion of mine.

    Besides taking off whenever I want the balckberry helps me stay connected so I can be somewhere and not be in the office.

    I usually take 7-8 weeks a year of vacation......I am fairly disciplined in my free time, I try not to waste it.

    This year we pulled out the stops and hosted a huge holiday party for 160 of our clients with great food, wine and entertainemt.....while our out of town clients received anywhere from $25 to $100 invites to name the charity of their choice that we paid while acknowledging them. We lovedoing that stuff... image

    I guess you can tell I still like working.

    I think there should be other categories as well. For instance: voluntarily unemployed, involuntarily unemployed, disabled, etc. There may be people who don't fit into either category of retired, semi-retired or neither.....but only in the very broadest sense and definition.

    "boss" just signs my time sheet. I call it the best job around!

    I am very retired and enjoy everyday to the fullest, as long as I can. I've been a Machinist tool maker all of my life. And used to be a welder fabricator for many years and built military equipment for years and years, you can still see my work in the desert of Iraq and Afghanistan in the form of Bradly fighting vehicles and multiple launch rocket systems. I miss working , but I enjoy not working just a little more....Joe
