    Show us an image with the mint mark in the normal position, too.

    Yup. Looks like an S mintmark to me in that pic although it may be an optical delusion.

    Certainly interesting to see an anomaly as such, I'm thinking a die chip that resembles a "S" but then again...

    Could not say one thing or another from the pictures, but I am inclined to think that if a Denver Mint die had been used with a prominent S mint mark out in the field like that, it is likely that somebody would have noticed it before.

    that is a 34 peace dollar and there is no known die lump/break/chip for that die like that. It looks like PMD to me

    I am no expert by any means but that looks like an S to me. I would take it to a major show and let the experts look at it in person.

    i`m seeing 3 mintmarks. i see 2 S`s and 1 D.

    That is bizarre. I would guess the "S" was added by a counterfeiter.

    You should post this at VAMWorld. There are some very knowledgable Peace Dollar VAMmers over there, as well as the ANACS VAM attribution guy and a guy who did attributions for ICG... also a guy under the handle "messydesk" who I believe is here too, that runs a slabbing outfit called Variety Slabbing Service. You should get an answer there.

    I just don't see how a D mint coin gets a floating "s" mintmark out in the field. I don't see how that occurred at the mint.

    I'm not a Die Variety specialist, but
    I agree with the post that said if it
    were a real "S" punched on the Die,
    it would have/should have been
    discovered long long ago.

    It's either some type of PMD/optical
    illusion(although I do admit it looks
    like an "S" in the scan), or, as Rick
    suggested, an "S" from China.....

    Someone will have to examine the
    coin in-hand; you can either ship
    it to a Vam site, or I'd be glad to view
    it at the FUN show in Tampa next week.

    It is clearly a known Rev die for a 34. If it is fake it its a cast or electrotype and those aren't the main kind of fakes coming out of the far east right now. It almost has to be an optical illusion or PMD

    What year Peace Dollar is this?

    Seems a little odd that the S is raised up so high... looking at the D... it looks flatten out... since the S is
    on one of the rays... you would really think the S would be much flatter... just my take. Will be interesting
    to see what the VAM experts have to say...
