I just have to laugh

1500+ thread Whinning about the high price from the authorized sellers for the hockey pucks. The same whiners have no problem asking the price they whined about times 2. The greed is overwhelming. I wish the mint had charged $1500 a set. Merry Christmas.

what's also laughable is that collectors who would scoff at and ridicule privately-issued oversized multi-ounce silver replicas of classic coins and bills

are salivating over oversized, multi-ounce replicas of CURRENTLY CIRCULATING CLAD QUARTERS.

these are clearly not "just bullion" at the premiums these are going to trade for, at first... time will tell what values do when the next craze hits.

Yep, exonumia, suitable for coffee table coasters, priced ridiculously. However, some may collect them. Cheers, RickO

Not all that called the mint about the high prices turned into flippers, most did it because the AP's were giving us the shaft, but i do agree with the whining of a Few. Even after they cut the price these people were crying because they missed selling there sets for 2700 and now could only make 700 or more . To me there is no hurry unless you were planning on flipping. These will be easy to pick up a set at one of the other 9 ap's .............. merry christmas image

Just exactly who are you referring to? I've stopped following that thread after it became clear that the APs are LYING through their teeth.

You call it whining. I call it not being ripped off. Furthermore, I don't have any sets yet, if ever.

For the record, Jim - I note that (2) of our board members now have multiple sets on ebay, and at least one of them was complaining about the very people who had a problem with the original price gouging by Apmex.

How do two of our own forum members manage to obtain 2 sets and to have them on ebay when the APs are telling me point-blank that they don't have them for sale yet?

One these same "fellow numismatists" was quite vocal in his denigration of those who wanted fairness in distribution, while in the meantime he is one of the scalpers who is busy jacking up the prices on ebay. How much more proof do YOU need that this is crap and needs to be stopped?

Your post is misleading, inaccurate and is beating the wrong horse.

So, what did the APMEX buyers end of paying for the set after the mint spanked APMEX on pricing?

Dont understand your question. Apmex had the sets for sale and they are an AP. Multiple sets for sale by members here can be obtained from people who bought from APMEX???-------BigE

Apmex has told me every day for the past 3 days that they don't have the sets for sale. BigE, they are supposed to offer the sets to everyone, and that is not happening. What don't you understand?

To my knowledge the people that ordered at the ripoff price have received their set (one), minus any duplicate orders. Those folks also got a refund of the "over payment". My question is what happened to the sets from the multiple orders? Why aren't these selling? There had to be at least a few hundred out of the 3000 sets ordered.

I'd guess they were ordered by friends/relatives/contacts of those who have the multiple sets for sale. Works the same way here when the Mint imposes limits and dealers post on the BST wanting members to buy for them.

I think most of the "whiners" were those who were unable to order the first thousand sets that APMEX sold because APMEX sent out a email to those who signed up for the coins long ago. Considering they sold out in 19 hours or so, those of us who bought had the chance to pass. So for the ones of us who bought at $1395.00, I would not classify as "whiners". I'm glad that a bunch of people did complain though as it ended up with us getting a $500+ rebate check image

How many here would sell their set for $1395?

They will be sold at premiums similar to the ASE's in another year. Not much more than that.

if the US Mint sold them directly more collectors would have been able to purchase them and I bet many would have been happy to buy with their issue price

I get amused at the folks who entertain the thought of "collecting" these since it borders on collecting saucers. 56 regular issue and 56 satin finish is going to consume a lot of space. Throw each one into a slab of sometype and now you've got a set of mini-cutting boards.

I can understand purchasing some simply to look at but paying goofy premiums for the first issue of something which only a select few will ever complete seems silly.

Will they fit in Coke machines?

Seriously, these are over the top and will only have one purpose in the short term: To make money for the flippers, which is capitalism and fine. The distribution just needs to be fair, as does the AP resale price. The "good ole' boy" network exists everywhere.
Who knows for the long term; bullion, a discus, melted if silver goes ballistic? This issue is just not attractive. If I am interested, I'll get the "uncirculated" version from the Mint.
They remind me of the bi-centennial over-sized replicas from the 1970's.
