Buffalo guys: What are your thoughts on this 1938D?

Pics are not the best, but what do you think this would grade? Thanks in advance!

    Genuine, obverse and reverse looks like it's been wiped or cabinet rubbed.
    Maybe dipped as well. A bit of damage through United States.

    There look to be light horizontal wipe or slide marks at the center of each side. Based on that, my grade guess would be MS63 (if uncirculated), but either way, I do not think it would be worth having it graded.

    I don't like it. Not only does it appear to have horizontal hairlines across both the obverse and reverse, but it also has an obverse milkspot by LIBERTY and reverse damage through UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

  • Thanks for the feedback guys. My bro heard that I collected coins (I really collect tokens/Wiener Medals....shhhhhhh) so he bought a few things for me not knowing anything about coins whatsoever. Whoever he bought these coins from inflated the grades on the coins. He graded this buffalo as MS65. I think my brother got taken for a ride! Ugh. image

    Chaz,
    To answer your question first, I would agree with Mark, about MS63. In addition to what others pointed out, tail is merged into rim and "L" in LIBERTY looks truncated. Also strike in center obverse above braid is a bit soft. You probably know, these are only worth sending in for grading if you have shot at 67 or so.

  • Looks dipped and whizzed or something similar. The horizontal scratches scream foul play.

    I see no indication that it has been whizzed. It appears to be something a lot less sinister than that.image

    I suspect that your brother bought it off ebay or a local dealer. Probably could
    return for a refund.

    Just to add to the consensus.... not worth grading... my opinion, genuine (due to the above). Cheers, RickO
