I hadn't thought of this
When I first saw this ebay listing, I thought of the problem Keets was having with a seller who didn't get his price. This bidder won with a bid of $.01. Just as I was feeling some sympathy for the seller, I saw the shipping fee!

Moreover, it would be funny to find out where this guy lives and if you lived close by, tell him you will need to pick up the coin in person since you live so close.

"Item will be shipped in a padded mailer, local pick-up is not available, thanks"
Fee avoidance. I can't believe eBay lets people get away with this. It is against their policy, it is unfair, and it should be simple to fix.

i think this may be incorrect......i am under the impression that the full amount (item + shipping) is refunded

Nobody puts a gun to your head to make you use eBay. You agree to terms when you sign up.

You are right that this isn't an aggravated felony punishable by lethal injection. Yet, do you agree that this seller is:
a) deliberately misleading bidders? ( all of the sales of those 2010 ASEs were going for far less than the $68 someone got stuck with.)
b) deliberately violating his agreement with ebay?
I have dealt with you, nottwilight, and been very pleased with the transactions, with no ethical concerns. Scarsdale, I have enjoyed your posts for some time, again, never getting any sense of the above from you, either.

So you thinks its ok for the seller to be able over charge for shipping. That is blatant fee avoidance.
I dont think you would run your auctions this way.
Thank god for the people who report him!!

Thank you.
On one hand his avoidance of final value fees could cost everyone else in the long run.
On the other hand Ebay should be the one policing itself.

If we run an tattle on every one who violates a rule, or avoid doing business with everyone who has ever done an unethical act, we will live a lonely life. Sure, I agree with and actively participate in all ebay police efforts to bust counterfeiters and scammers trying to rip off buyers. But I can't get very excited for someone trying to save on ebay fees, even if they are violating ebay rules. Leave that to ebay to enforce. I don't stand on a street corner with a radar gun calling the cops for speeders either. Ebay is a big boy. They don't need my help to collect their fees.
Ebay has gotten way out of control with fees and is working rapidly toward making it impossible to sell reasonably price coins. I calculated fees on a $90 sale for another thread the other day and it was 13+ percent. So if you're a buyer you're paying 13% juice. Why sell on ebay when at Heritage for 15% you get a well promoted auction with guaranteed bidders.
I predict a continued decline on ebay sales of coins. I haven't decided if I'm even going to list the 2010 Proof Silver eagles on ebay or not.
