<< <i>Thanks so much for your positive thoughts guys! The surgery is a week away, but I'm not allowing myself to freak out, especially because I still have to take all four of my finals. I would like to give an especially big thanks to Winston (STONE) who sent me a really neat gift. It's a broken SLQ counterfeit that represents my broken heart. LOL. Thanks again guys!
I hope that you have a quick recovery and can attend the FUN show if you want to. Happy Holidays.

Ok guys, tomorrow's the day. I have to be at the hospital at 6AM, and I should be done and in the ICU between 12 and 2. Hopefully Winston (STONE) will be around to keep you updated from my Facebook. Otherwise, I'll talk to you guys sometime later in the week. Thank you all so much for all your kind words and support, and I'll see you on the other side!
Your'e gonna be fine brother, better just to get it out of the way so you can get back to collecting and all of the other things important!
Here is one I am waiting for in the mail, it should be here shortley, about the same time you will be back posting. I'll send you better images when I get her for you opinion.
Praying for you buddy! I know what it is like to sit in the waiting room for almost 6 hours. My boy had open heart surgery when he was 3 months old. Everything worked out perfectly for him! I way pray for you the same way. We expect you back on the board ASAP!

My wife is set for two valves and a chamber reconstruction. No matter what, the best doctors, hospital, etc... I still feel nervous. I can't shake it until its over... At the same time, as the surgery approaches, I'm not any calmer...

Eh, I'm going to be knocked out all day tomorrow anyways. Whatever. Lmao.
Ebstein's Anomaly. She had it done 10 years ago, but the pigs valve wore out (as planned and I got a beautiful daughter b/c of the pig's valve)
I've always know she's one in a million, it turns out closer to 1 in 3 million is statically more accurate.
Her tricuspid is so bad, it put great pressure on the pulmonary that she needs to have both done. Her mitral has a slight leak, but they ain't touching that one. They think when the other two are fixed, it will be fine. Also her valve reconstruction from the last time went migrated lower in her atrium. Weird.
What was the reason why you decided to get it done. Low Cardiac Index, Low O2 levels? Tired all the time? I guess it doesn't matter.
We're going to Mayo Clinic and for that I'm grateful. Not too many places that fix her problem.
And if I have to meet another arrogant cardiologist.... well hopefully not for a long time...
Good luck! I was about to say have fun, but on thinking about it I didn't have much fun when I had an artificial heart valve installed... Anyway now that they have finished practicing on me (I've had 2 open heart surgeries so far) they should be in pretty good shape for you!

Tetrology of Fallot is what I have. It's a relatively rare defect (5 in 10,000) according to my Mom. Long story short, I had 4 problems, one of which was a bad pulmonary valve, which they "fixed" in 1991 by sewing it in an open position. They knew that wouldn't work forever because the right ventricle starts enlarging. I haven't been symptomatic (besides palpitations a few times a day). This is essentially a preemptive surgery to prevent my right ventricle from enlarging further, which would be a problem. I'm getting either a human, pig, or cow valve. Not sure which yet. I'm getting it done at UF in Gainesville by a really awesome Cardiologist. He seems like a nice guy that truly cares, so that's good.
I'm sure they went through the pros / cons of artificial vs animal. Blood thinners for life sucks (artificial), but a opening you up sucks too... no easy answers though.... especially for women and the birth defects caused by blood thinners....
You'll do great. When my wife had her last one... her o2 was 81% the morning of the surgery... when they told her to count backwards she didn't make it past 10, 9.....
I still laugh at that....
Are they doing open heart or laparoscopic surgery. I think pulonmary is possible to do that, but my wife's tricuspid makes it out of the question. The surgery without cracking the chest is actually a very speedy recovery. Heart has more o2 than before. It's the chest part that's long and difficult... to say the least

They can't do laproscopic this time, but MAY be able to do it in the future if I have a valve there already.

<< <i>Here's to a speedy recovery and to make your hospital stay much more enjoyable I hope you have some hot nurses!
>>
I had a couple of hot nurses when I was in there and basically, I couldn't handle it.....the sponge baths. They'd start at the head, do the arms, chest and belly. Then they'd move to the feet and work their way up. Well, I tried getting into what was on TV but that wasn't working and they were up to the knees. Now, all I have on is one of those gowns that can open up in the back if your not careful. Which, by the way, I totally was exposing myself as I went on one of those midnight hallway walks with your IV. Some gal came out of a room and fixed my gown right there, letting me know....but getting back to the sponge bath. There was no-way I was going to keep from ....flagging those two nurses so I ended up telling them that I had to go to the bathroom, something that I was able to do myself on day 2, 3 or 4? and so they left while I did my thing and I also washed myself up. When they came back I let them know that I finished cleaning up and one of them said, you're suppose to let us do that. Had they gave me a pep talk on it, how it was natural to respond because........I might have went through with it. Another uncomfortable time prior to the baths was when a young gal who actually used to be a classmate of my oldest son, came in to take out my catheter. She threw my gown back, grabbed on and said, "are you ready?" man, I whelped like a pup. Not that it hurt but it did freak me out feeling that tube pull through.
Well, I guess we can get back to coins now............good luck with your surgery, you'll do just fine.
