Maybe, just maybe, his sales site is under construction?
I'm sure that if something happened that there would have been a news report by at least one of the parties involved and since nothing has shown up in the Denver Press (they just love these federal raid reports), I can only think that either his site is under construction or maybe he had a system failure.
System failures do prevent you from doing things such as posting on chat boards. They're usually followed with recovery procedures, debugging procedures, cussing procedures, oh crap procedures, and new systems which need to be loaded followed by more cussing and oh craps.
I'm sure folks will find out soon enough whats happening.
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

......hey , I'm jealous of Mr. Carrs work , and even though better left to the authorities , I feel it is my duty to speak out and voice damnation every time the topic
of his fantasy Peace Dollars comes up . And , I will use my own precious time to rat out anyone who attempts to sell one on eBay - even though anyone can buy them

1964-D Peace Silver Dollar! Struck On A Genuine United States Peace Dollar "Exact-Size" Reproduction One of 21 Trial Strikes Produced by Royal Oak Mint

"This is Royal Oak Mint's "Exact Size" Reproduction of the aborted 1964-D Peace Dollar! Unlike the majority made by ROM over the years that were struck on pure silver planchets, this one is struck on a genuine United States Mint Peace Dollar!"
"Bongo drive 1984 Lincoln that looks like old coin dug from ground."
It would be even funnier if another D. Carr peace sells on Ebay! I can just see some of your now, feverishly reporting to Ebay that this fantasy restrike does not have "copy" stamped on it. Like that will change anything with the big picture anyways.
There is no "AT" or "NT". We only have "market acceptable" or "not market acceptable.
Every forum has trolls. This place is no different than any other. They get jealous, they lash out. I just laugh at them; as theirs is merely an exercise in futility.
<< <i>DenverDave I notice your image is not showing the misstruck D mintmark. Has the offset trace mintmark eroded off the striking dies? >>
This was covered in the other thread a couple of weeks back. The reverse die with the D/D became unusable, and so he created a new reverse die with a die gouge to the right of the mint mark.

Sold for $142. It appears that Ebay is not going to pull these coins if they are accurately described ("1964-D Peace Dollar Fantasy overstruck on Peace Dollar "). If Mr. Carr's Peace Dollars have indeed been closed, then these coins will go up in value quickly and that $142 will become a real steal.
No matter which way this goes, it's a story that has lots of interest.
There is no "AT" or "NT". We only have "market acceptable" or "not market acceptable.
"If legality is a concern, buyers should consider a similar piece, the proposed 1876 $100 Union private strikings from the New York Mint. Similar in scope to the fantasy 1964-D Peace Dollar, these coins have been in production since the latter part of the last decade and have not been confiscated nor recalled. While future ownership rights are uncertain, it appears fully legal to collect either coin." quoted from this website
WHAT DOES THAT TELL YOU..............I am sure Mr. Carr is fully aware of what he is doing and would have not put it in motion to produce such coins if there were any doubt whatso ever that it would be illegal!
I dunnu - that tells me the words "appears", "uncertain" and "similar" were needed to be used.
I dunno again - that 1876 does not look like something one could spend. This 1964 thingie, one could walk into a store and potentially spend it. A "savvy Joe" at a register might think it is a Peace Dollar worth silver melt, or just some coin or other. Or, some poor and not so savvy collector might purchase one at some crazy local sale or other in a fake slab or some such - we have all seen things sold 'irresponsibly" have we not? What if I strike a 1966, or if you prefer a 1967, Washington 25C on a silver planchet? This also would be a legal fantasy piece, and needs no "copy" on it?

Not the same at all. The us mint released 1966 and 1967 quarters and used us mint dies. According to the us mint, no 1964 peace dollars were released, That's a HUGE difference.
In silver? I thought the last were 1966. Ok, Ok, 1968 silver Washington. I looked quickly into the 66 and 67 - there seem to be none in existence.
Best, Eric >>
It's all about the dies that the US Mint used to produce the quarters. Use can not legally counterfeit dies the mint used to produce coins that were released by the US mint.
If there are 1966 and 1968 quarters struck on Silver Planchets, they would be considered rare off metal error coins.

I would hope that the Mint lab had the sense to photograph the two 1964-D dollars in their reference collection before they destroyed them, if only for future reference. If somebody wants to file a FOIA request to try to see them, be my guest. Just run them here is all I ask. TD
