*UPDATE* Found a 1942/1 D Merc in silver the other day!! PICTURES ADDED NOW!! GRADE IN!!

PCGS graded it Genuine.... I am extremely happy. This coin was just a piece of junk silver a few months ago and now it is..... Gennie image

I recently found a decent VF 1942/1 D Mercury Dime in a batch of silver I bought. I couldn't believe it and I have been looking for this variety for about 5 years. I always check my 42 P and D dimes. Too bad it has a few small ticks in her. She will be off to PCGS soon.

Probably the coolest thing I have found in silver in a long time!!

Here are the pictures you guys were waiting for!! Sorry the pictures aren't the greatest. Actually they suck!! The closeup is so blurry. I promise you it is the variety. I have seen and owned a few of these, just never actually found one before. I recently moved to Alaska and I haven't got the time to setup the photo studio. My pictures are usually 50x better than this. It is so funny because my wife doesn't think this coin is all the great and she is probably right she has seen hundreds of mercury dimes.

This coin has some damage and would most likely grade VF details. Mind you I paid roughly $1.50 for this one. Cheers!

Sweet! About a year ago+ I found a raw one on eBay and ended up paying about $200 for it. Sent it in to be slabbed ATS and it came back F-15. I sold it for $425 and was pretty happy about that. image

Some might not realize Tom that this is the Denver 42/1 which is a
lot different in appearance from the Philly 42/1

    edited to add.
Looking at that reverse, it looks like a different mintmark location than I am used to seeing on a 42/1 D

The picture is blurry but the notch on the bottom of the 4 is the dead giveaway.

That's so cool, nice to know there are still some good ones hangin' around! I must have looked at a 1000 over the years and never found one. My Dad found the Philly version back in 1964 in his change from E J Korvettes. I'll never forget his moment of sheer ecstasy, I'd love to relive that. I'm happy for you. Great find!!!

The D version is harder to see than the Philadelphia version.

The Cherrypicker's Guide is a valueable tool and a must have, Realone. It will teach way more than the boards could, even though this is a great place for camaraderie and discussion. That book alone is a wonderful reference book, as varieties are concerned. Not complete, but a good start.
