No, no silver content, just a 69 year old nickel still in circulation. With the coins out there now it's just one of life's little moments and the OP was happy to have found it.

Collect for the love of the hobby, the beauty of the coins, and enjoy the ride.
Nickels are the most likely denomination to find specimens of older coins in circulation. For some reason they seem to be less collected, at least that appears to be the case. Cheers, RickO
Nickels are good for finding oldsters, I have found as early as a 1920 Buffer in change, but cents are better - I found a 1912-D in a box search last week. In the past couple of weeks I have searched 20K cents, that was the earliest but not the rarest find - that rarest is a 1925 Canadian cent, only 1M minted that year.
I have to sort them all out and create a separate post for the last 8 boxes I have searched.

Yesterday, I found a 192? P cent in a take a penny bin at the gas station... It was severely corroded and I thought I might have had a 22 plain only to bring it home and get it under 16x power to see it wasna 1921. Still neat just a little excitement for a while.
Awarded the coveted "You Suck" Award on 22 Oct 2010 for finding a 1942/1 D Dime in silver, and on 7 Feb 2011 Cherrypicking a 1914 MPL Cent on Ebay!
finding old coins in change is a neat and interesting find, and the thrill of not knowing what lies with your change makes finding older coins all that more interesting
