Some times all the hard work and hunting pays off...

As you all know I am a proof set hound!! Well, it's been tough. Work has kept me from a lot of shows but I still get to look around sometimes. I paid bid for both sets, one as a small date, the other wasn't marked.

It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

No, one from a dealer in FLA, the other at a show here in IL. According to the pops, I made #21 and #22 (there are no 69s). So I don't know how many have been cracked out and resubmitted.

    Hey Marty
How the heck have you been?

That is a major major score on a really tough DCAM in that grade.

What happened to the DCAM 64 AH and DCAM 65, 66, and 67 SMS Kennedies? Did you and Russ find them all?

Just finding proof sets with Cameo coins is getting harder and harder.. With silver climbing maybe it will bring more sets out of the woodwork. Problem is any sets that hit the "Cash for gold" are going to be lost forever!!!

Now should we tell cheezhed this is how to SUCK!!! 2 sets for under $25 each and each one sells for over $3500!!

WTG, Marty! I have great respect for you guys who put in a lot of legwork to find the gems.

Do you ever wonder how many sets you've looked at more than once? I would imagine if you go to John Doe's table 6 months after you last checked his stuff, you have to look at everything just in case.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

I have a dealer in WI who has a lot of sets, he lets me mark them so I don't keep looking though the same ones again and again. But I'm sure there are sets I have seen 3 or 4 times. Part of the hunt!!!

Marty, I am so glad that you live in the eastern half of the USA.

If you lived in California or other parts of the Western US I would never find anything good because you would provide too much competitionimage

Since you are not out west, that leaves a few cherries around for me to harvest [I recently picked up a 1957 proof set in OGP for $20.00 that contains a brilliant half, a quarter with a DCAM obverse and CAM reverse, a dime with a two sided Cameo appearance, a nickel with a two sided Cameo appearance and a Cameo cent].

The quarter is the best I have ever found. It looks like the plate coin on the cover of Rick Tomaska's book on 1950-70 Cameo proof and SMS coins.
