82 Lincoln DDR?

I was watching the post about the 2004 Jefferson Nickel and the split serif only showing on the "S" and it brought to mind this coin i found a while ago.
The lettering is very thick and I only see a split on the "S"

This was also pointed out:
Doubling can be caused by several different factors and some of those factors can be limited to only a small portion of the coin. Specifically, consider the 2009 Formative Years DDR's for a simplistic view. There's also distorted hub doubling where only a small portion of the die gets affected due to some distortion on the hub during the die making process.

Thanks for looking

Harry, submit your coin to some one for attribution. My recommendation is James Wiles from CONECA.
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

    The name is LEE!

Not to disagree with the esteemed above members, but this looks to be a post mint hit on the
lower bar of the S and not a doubled/split serif to me.
The size and shape of the S looks normal without this "hit".
Look at it carefully under a 20 or stronger glass for signs of distress from a PM hit.
Some coins are just plain "Interesting"

    Harry,
Where is the post on the 2004 Jeff? I missed it.

Interesting post. I found an 82 a while ago too. Not sure if it's worth sending in. What do you all think? Hope I'm not stepping on OP. Thanks for your opinion.

could be a hit i guess.pretty rounded hit in exactly the spot to look like a split serif.
i'll send it in anyway just to be sure.

1mike1: that looks to be machine doubling.I find ones just like that all the time.
    ya gotta look for splits.

The cent 'doubling' does look strange. If you send it for evaluation, be sure to post the results. The nickle is shelf doubling. Cheers, RickO

I concur. Either that or a well placed die chip.

'82 DDR's are EXTERMELY RARE!!! Yours looks like it is not a DDR though if the doubling is confined SOLELY to the lower serif of the S.

If Rocco & I are wrong though then it looks like you might have a discovery peice as CONECA only recognizes one DDR for the year (Wexler & Crawford haven't recognized any). Best to send it to Wiles.

Currently, the below is the only known one for '82 (VERY VALUABLE - as in thousands for a mint state specimen)

    1982 DDR-001, Designation: 1-R-IV

Description: Strong spread East on all design elements, including E PLURIBUS UNUM and the memorial columns

    Grade: MS62, Population: 1

Markers: Obverse is ODV-032 (Small date) Zinc, UVC-2511, DMR-006

    Stage A: EDS (unconfirmed)

Stage B: Die scratches East-West all around the bust – EMDS

A few Northwest-Southeast die scratches in the motto,
Swirling die scratches throughout the date area,
Die scratches East-West in the recesses of the center area of the bust (around the ear, in the neck),
Die scratches East-West in ONE CENT, to the left of the memorial building, and around STATES – EMDS,
Swirling concentric die scratches in the memorial bays both to the left and right of center.

    Stage D: LDS (unconfirmed)

    Reported by: Richard J. Ziegler

Unlike DDR#!, even if CONECA bit off on it, it would not be worthy of much of a premium for the (apparent possible) type of DDR it is -IMHO.

I sent it to Wexler. He says it is die deterioration doubling. Not a post mint hit but not a true double die either.

But my 2 Wisconsin 25c coins are both DDR coins and will be listed at Wexlers site soon.So not all bad news....
