  • All that stuff and the pic you use is an 86 TT Bonds?

EDIT to add: You may be just a tad bit overly optimistic with the pricing.

    Thanks for the headache.

Oh - good luck with the sale.

Do you think if someone offered him 60% of the sell price, he would laugh and post a thread about the lowball offer?image (Nothing personal ktw6ey-just referencing another popular topic)

I do find it strange that the one picture he posts in that auction is not even PSA graded--especially the way he hypes the PSA graded aspect of this collection. I would suggest adding many more pictures--and make most of them PSA graded cards. Good luck with the sale.
I collect Vintage Cards, Commemorative Sets, and way too many vintage and modern player collections in Baseball (180 players), Football (175 players), and Basketball (87 players). Also have a Dallas Cowboy team collection.

Are you willing to sell me just this card and adjust your asking price down to $39,997.00 or best offer?

Just to play math geek for a second--$6,000 would be the 85% off price.

You might want to consider noting that the numbers in parenthesis are the grades and not quantities.

Good luck, but you'll need something more like a miracle to get anything close to your asking price.

  • I'm stunned.

Refusing to break up this collection and only sell as a whole you'll be lucky to get $3000.

If you break it up and sell individually you could possibly scratch $5000.

$40k is a pipe dream from some fantasy land at best.

    Good Luck

BTW I'm sure if you did decide to break it up, you could move a lot of that stuff on these boards. I'd even throw offers in on a couple.

Read my responses above, I totally agree.

There are quite a few I would be interested in but I also wouldn't mind buying the whole lot for $3000 and then do the work to make a little extra.
  • Thanks for everybody's input. I have decided to go with everyone's advice, and I'm now willing to break up the collection and sell off groups of cards from the set. If you are interested, please send me a PM or an email at the address provided above and I will get back to you as soon as I possibly can.

Also, thanks to the person who cleaned up this list. It definitely is a lot easier to ready now. The $40,000 was probably a little ambitious, but I wanted to see if anyone was interested in making an offer in the $15-30k range.

Send me your best offers for the cards you want! Thanks!

Turn on your private message function.

(Guess he didn't like the bold...)
  • Private messages have been turned on (sorry I'm new to the forum).

I liked the bold by the way, but it didn't copy over from your post. I'll go back through and do the bolding later when I have more time.

Also, I reduced the price of the collection by 20%.

  • << <i>Can you throw up a couple prices so a general idea can be had on pricing???

Yeah, take VCP average and add about 50%.

If you want to break up the lot, you are going to have to get off the idea that your cards are worth more than everybody elses. Based on your PM you seem to think this lot will sell for $10-12k. Considering that about half the cards are completely unsellable by themselves, you might need to be more realistic or give up.

BTW, everyone on this forum is familiar with VCP. I usually would never post a PM on a public forum but feel it is necessary on this thread.

Here is part of the sellers response when I offered to pay VCP average for 5 cards and I quoted VCP average:

<< <i>As for the cards you listed, my prices would probably be higher than those averages. If you are willing to pay more than those averages, I'll definitely listen to offers but I completely understand if you don't. >>

  • He offered to pay $0.99 for one of the cards and the other averages will lower than they were selling on eBay for. Prices will be fair if you don't try to lowball me. Feel free to send offers. Thanks.

BTW - VCP is the average price of what that particular card is getting on ebay and many of the other auction companies. It is fairly close to market price on most items.

  • OK, here is the PM I sent with VCP averages.

The $0.99 was what the 99 Bowman Chrome Crawford sold for last time. Oh yeah, the sale before that was $1.47.

    Here's my PM:

<< <i>These are the ones I am interested in. I added VCP average sales prices for each card. Feel free to make me an offer I can not refuse.

If you are interested in selling the entire lot, I would still be interested.

1984 Topps Tiffany #8 Don Mattingly PSA 8 VCP average $39.60
1987 Fleer Update Glossy #U-68 Greg Maddux PSA 9 VCP average $5.22
1990 Leaf #300 Frank Thomas PSA 9 VCP average $12.18
1999 Bowman Chrome #440 Carl Crawford PSA 9 Last 2 sold for $0.99 and $1.47

    Thanks,
    Bill >>

  • << <i>Prices will be fair if you don't try to lowball me. >>

And in response to his fair prices, his response was that his cards are worth more than VCP averages.

Maybe we should start paying more than VCP averages... so that cards produced in the late 70s through 90s are actually worth something again.

I understand you want to turn a profit, but you won't make anything if you continue to try and gouge everyone.

The image you have in your head of the hobby I think is a bit skewed.

The fact is the people that make up this message board ARE the hobby.

If you are unwilling to accept their terms then you need to part ways and start collecting coins and stamps or whatever.

    -K
  • Sorry for the delay. I just replied to your PM.
  • In response to K's post, I've been on eBay as a Power Seller for a long time. I'm not trying to gouge prices whatsoever, but I know how much I could sell them for on eBay and would need to get similar prices here to let them go. When people offer me say $200 for a group of 5 cards, and one of the 5 cards by itself is worth more than $200 than obviously I'm not going to be willing to sell for that. These are the type of offers I've been getting and they are just not going to work. If you have a fair offer, I'd be more than happy to listen.

  • << <i>These are the type of offers I've been getting and they are just not going to work. If you have a fair offer, I'd be more than happy to listen. >>

You mean my offer using VCP averages, some of which were higher than the last recorded sales?

Good luck getting ABOVE average eBay sales prices when you list them on eBay.

EDIT to add: I sure don't see anything about this PoweSeller status claim for the past bazillion years

The issue is the card K was talking about is not worth the $200 dollars.

Maybe at one time, when Lincecum just won a Cy Young the card was going for that. In today's market that card is a $150 to $175 max card.

If you have more money into that then $175 then sorry, right now you are going to lose some money if you sell.

People on Ebay do what everyone one here does, looks at completed auction prices to formulate their max bids.

The cards are in the wrong holders to get max profit (BGS sells better) anyway.

The best bet you have if you want max money is to wait and hope each person has a huge game or season and sell then.

What people are quoting you is NOW market value.

Being a Powerseller counts FOR NOTHING amongst ebay buyers. They are all about value. None of your cards are rare or meet any of the qualities card sellers would have for buying from a trusted source (raw vintage, hard to find, condition).
