I bought this 1873 seated dollar at the Boston ANA show. It fills the last hole in the ol' Dansco 7070 book! I now get to replace the first coins I bought before I knew what I wanted the set to look like.
PCGS Currency: HOF 2013, Best Low Ball Set 2009-2014, 2016, 2018. Appreciation Award 2015, Best Showcase 2018, Numerous others.

To be completly honest, I don't know. I would say at least 7 years or so... maybe longer. I'd pick up a coin here and another one there. I'll post photos of the whoie set once I replace some coins that need replacing (the ones I mentioned before).

That's exactly what I'm trying to do! I would have to sell everything I have to afford some if the first year coins.
Why is cracking this out a bad idea?

The only reason not to crack it out is if you plan on selling it in the near future. If the coin is for the 7070, then take out the hammer!

Recent threads here also show that no matter how unlikely it may seem to the owner, a cracked-out coin, in exactly the same condition as it was prior to being cracked out, may get "genuined" while trying to get it back into a slab. One should consider that an acceptable risk however original the coin appears, if cracking out is to be done.

In spite of my apparant naïveté, I like to think that this is a hobby of gentlemen that take others of the same sort at their word when presented with a raw coin and a slab label. That said, with coins of "excessive" value, however that may be defined, a future buyer must take the nature of re-slabbing into consideration, especially if it is his/her intention to use the coin in a registry set or place the coin up for sale.

Oh boy... if your last coin is indicative of what the rest of the set has to be upgraded to, you are in for a few pages of expense to come. That's a nice looking seated dollar, and it appears to have sufficient luster remaining, so that you can call it "AU" outside of the plastic

And I'm with you ... what's wrong with cracking that out for an album? I mean geez ... crack it and enjoy it. For an EF that coin looks all there and then some, and hopefully always will.
I (personally) probably wouldn't crack a SL Dollar if it was a Ch.Unc or better, but at Ch.AU and below, if I wanted it in my album, I would. Heck, I do it with AU/Ch.AU coins all the time. Unless someone is buying just the plastic and isn't paying attention to the coin, the coin isn't going to change grades lowwer (unless it's damaged). Heck, it might even get a small bump if it's ever graded again.
The only advantages I see to slabbed coins at AU55 and below (this is my personal opinion) is protection and liquidity, and of course these days more than in the past, a (hopefully) added assurance of authenticity. I think liquidity is the one thing some collectors have the hardest time with.
Sorry, I'm rambling. I really just wanted to say Way To Go! on completing the 7070, and getting ready for the upgrades!!

Having sold the first 7070 I was putting together, I distinctly remember the Seated Liberty Dollar was purchased from Jeremy (airplanenut) on the BST
I don't find much of an issue with cracking out a coin for such a mission. To each their own and a guy building the set knows what look is desireable. Nobody else can decide that.
