(POLL) - Suggestion: Tamper Evident Labels

MsMorrisineMsMorrisine Posts: 39,407 ✭✭✭✭✭
Make the labels adhesive and stick to one half of the holder.

If removal is attempted, they break into pieces.

I'd guess it would also help if they reacted noticably with solvents used to remove adhesive.... maybe the ink could run or something.

The idea is to prevent their reuse.... such as for sandwich coins.

Worthy Idea or Don't Bother?

It can raise the bar but labels are cheap. How about edge view with secure RFID image

It appears that counterfeit labels can be produced easily enough. So there is no need for the scammers to use real labels.

The legit labels won't be reused. They would be replaced with counterfeit labels.

Any change you make leaves millions of pre-existing slabs out there.

Also, if you're splitting a slab to make a tampered coin, just make sure you keep the half with the label in it. Do it the same way you did the sandwich coin.

I vote don't bother...We need to be educated in every aspect in this hobby. Not only in authenticity but also in grading. Some collectors like toned coins and the idea that the toning can be artificialy achieved presents a major problem as well as counterfeit coins. The TPG's help us with this dilemma to a point but to keep yourself educated on these matters goes even further.
