No doubt it spent some time in an envelope, I just wish there was a way to find out when that period of its life(or any coins for that matter) was. Has this coin been known to the hobby for a while? Doesn't have the look of a carter or other great mass dispersed collection IMO. Very eye popping and deserves to be in an elite home.

It was in the personal collection of a dealer for quite some time - will try to find out the provenance beyond that.

    Yummy!

How PL is it in hand?

Any other shots to show of the coin (i.e. under different lighting conditions)?

Congrats on your newp & thanks for sharing...Mike

If I had to guess it has always been a gem & in fine cabinets but was blast white as recently as the 70s or 80s??( I have no real way to know ) and put in an envelope where it was held before being sold to a dealer who sat on it for a while when the collection was liquidated. I could be off a decade or two in either direction. None of that really changes what it is to us today which is a vibrant gem-ish conditional rarity with a look that appeals to a very wide group of collectors.

That looks terribly tarnished. I think you should dip it, or just send it to me.image
