Dealers burglerized in Ohio tonight

I don't have all the details, but 3 dealers riding together left the Richfield, Ohio (Cleveland area) show this evening, stopped along the turnpike to use the restroom, and came out to find the back windows smashed and all (or part of) their inventory gone. Can't say for sure if everything is gone, but one deals in PM's and lost an awful lot. Yes, the first thing I just said on the phone was "WHY would they all go in at once???" I sure hate this happening to him and the others, but when is anyone going to learn, after all the reports of this happening? This doesn't always happen to the "other guy" - each of us is someone else's "other guy".
Edited to change "robbed" to "burglerized" - it did not involve bodily contact.
Edited again to remove a name - perhaps should wait til police report is public.

It doesn't seem to matter what state you're in, or how big the show is. Always assume you're being watched and take precautions.
Okay dealers ... stop taking Lasix before you drive home!

Here's hoping that the upcoming labor day show goes down without any problems!
Unfortunately it seems like this is becoming a very common thing.

I have a hard time believing that there are dealers on the coin show circuit that haven't heard about these smash and grab robberies.

Coin dealers ssem to be hard headed or slow learners on these smash and grabs. If i was a dealer i would really have to look at the bottom line to see if setting up at shows really added a lot to my income, that could not be replaced at another outlet.

This is becoming a epidemic it seems as if every week or two we
hear this same story.
You hope they recover the stolen merchandise, but we all hope that these reports will help other dealers to get smarter about security and their own protection and safety, and the protection of their personal property.
My car is always parked in my garage but many times the door is open. I wonder if they have the right to go into your garage and do this. I suspect not.
<< <i>"..."WHY would they all go in at once???" ..."
That's the biggest question - I thought it was just us girls who couldn't go alone?! It seems like the guys getting hit are all the most wonderful people to deal with. Gentle and good people and perhaps way too trusting. You can't trust anyone but yourself and your Glock in this business (or other weapon of choice, of course.)
With a group of 3, just 1 guy should go in at a time, leaving the other 2 on guard, hopefully armed. The men traveling alone are the ones who scare me. Guess they need to stop at police stations and ask to use their facilities. Let's hope there were video cameras in the right places.
Carelessness is somehow seen as the norm in today's society. Nothing has changed in hundreds of years, predators and "highwaymen" are out there looking for and "victimizing" careless people. You just have to decide if want to protect your assets or file an insurance claim and hope for the best.
******** ATTENTION *******
My vehicle was broken into after the Ohio show in Richfield
Saturday at 6:15pm at a Rest Plaza on the Ohio Turnpike approximately
60 miles west from the show. The plaza was busy and there were
several
who witnessed the theft. The suspects were 3-4 Hispanic males under 6
foot driving a dark blue or black SUV. In addition to virtually all
my slabbed inventory they got near as I can figure about 50 raw US
gold coins and nearly 100 oz of gold bullion...mostly Eagles. Also
taken was my bag with all the invoices and checks from the show anyone
who wrote me a check at this show I would appreciate a direct so we
can stop payment.
Thankfully no one was hurt. I will be posting a list soon.

Somebody suggested a bolt down safe after previous robbery and I didn't like that because it screamed "target". This I like because:
1. It is hidden. No billboard saying "steal me."
2. It is in a pickup truck which is routine and, with a little neglect of the exterior, can look positively mundane.
3. It is secure enough to keep the common thief out (you can never stop the professional).

<< <i>Any information on who the three dealers were? >>
As wondercoin posted above, the hardest hit was Dave Nazzaro, a PM dealer. One of the others usually sets up next to Dave, can't remember his name, and I didn't hear who the 3rd was at all.
I remember at a show somewhere there was a dealer whose SUV had a sign across the door that read something like: "Rare Coins for Sale, Ask Me About Rare Coins and Gold" or something very similar.
Authorized dealer for PCGS, PCGS Currency, NGC, NCS, PMG, CAC. Member of the PNG, ANA. Member dealer of CoinPlex and CCE/FACTS as "CH5"
I feel terrible for the dealers involved as that stolen inventory prolly represented a nice hunk of their lives work and perhaps capital.

Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......
<< <i>this is a good thread that highlighlights my recent abscence from the forum along with other reasons--------------why are so many willing to be critical of the dealers in this case?? when things have happened in the past to dealers who were PCGS Coin Forum members nothing like that was done. quite to the contrary, members were sympathetic and quickly started a reward fund. >>
My guess as to the answer, is that, for example, more posters know of or know Julian personally, and like him.
I would have probably carried the 150 ounces with me to pee.
I hope they catch the 4 thugs.

Don't know what Dave drives, but perhaps it was a van or SUV. I think with 3 men travelling together, inventory would've been stashed behind them in whatever vehicle it was, not on their laps.
Al, I guess after reading this over and over again, people are just shocked it continues to happen. I think the world of Dave and about fell off my chair when I got the call last night. I hurt deeply for him and am not judging him.
If one lived on a busy street and every day someone stood on the highway and was struck by a car, wouldn't people question after a week or so WHY people kept going out to stand in the street? It's a heck of a thing to need a tragedy to continually remind people to be vigilant.
BTW nice to see you here again.

Well hi yourself.
Hey, look, I hate to sound like an insurance dick, but I just thought leaving it readily accessible like that was perhaps a little stupid.

Branish a Viking Battle Axe before you leave the car and that should help. Ok, maybe not, but aren't they friggin cool.
Totally sorry about the robbery, not trying to make light of this tragedy and pray all is returned.
Just for the record, had I happened to be there, they would be in jail or dead, or maybe a combination, in jail wishing they were dead.
<< <i>Why would two of the three dealers go in and use the restroom leaving one to watch the car and then once they get back the other guy goes? >>
If only one had remained with the car, he might have been confronted by the
robbers, outnumbered, and it could have been worse.
If the dealers had managed to avoid the incident at that location, but had been
tailed all the way home, the consequences could have been much worse.
