my Heritage Walker cherrypick arrived... yippee!!

DennisHDennisH Posts: 14,011 ✭✭✭✭✭
It came in the mail yesterday and it is what it looked like in the online photo: 1916-D/D FS-501. I submitted it for crossover grading today, and so far the total pop. at PCGS is just one.

(edited to add the date... DOH!)

It was Todd who confirmed my suspicion in Boston, so I hereby publicly kiss him on the hand for his assistance. image
I didn't have him look at the other cherrypick, though, and it also turned out to be what I thought: 1936-P DDO FS-102 in PCGS MS65.

Good question... which I'm not able to guess at. I think the '16-D/D is a very tough coin, because PCGS has only graded one of them so far (MS64). It was on eBay several weeks ago but did not get any bids. I think I recall the opening minimum was $1500, but there's no prior sales history in any grade to base a guess upon. My sense is the '36-P DDO is scarce at best, because I've found two of them in MS65 and a couple of XF-AUs. I used to think the '36-D DDO was tougher, but I've found three of them in MS65!
    When in doubt, don't.

Dennis, you've apparently started a new trend--------CherryPicking holdered coins!! Ezcellent!!image

Al: I've been doing that for quite a while, and almost exclusively with PCGS coins. Takes the uncertainty of crossovers out of play and eliminates the pain of bodybags that way. (Also limits the potential amount of spending that can happen at shows.) It's made learning when PCGS began attributing each variety and what holder type was in use then (as best I can) very helpful. Walkers are still pretty easy because they didn't attribute any of them except the 1946 DDR until this year. Morgans are a whole different ballgame though, since so many folks are looking for them. Unattributed Morgan VAMs in NGC holders are easier to find, and are even more plentiful than incorrectly attributed Morgan VAMs in NGC holders. (Yes, that is a knock on NGC... which it deserves.)
    When in doubt, don't.

congratulations! Cherrypicking slabbed coins is no different from cherrypicking raw coins other than supposedly no argument on grade.
