Other than set completeness, am I really missing anything by not ordering a proof set this year?

I got a little mailer the other day from the Mint, informing me that the 2010 Uncirculated Set is now available. I have not checked, but I assume that the 2010 proof set is also available. I have been buying these sets for years and years, although there are certain years where I forgot to order, and therefore, my set has holes.

Over the weekend I was cleaning out my office at home, and I have a full self of these sets just stacked there, still in original mailing boxes, rather than in velvet-lined drawers. The value of the sets makes them worthy of a shelf rather than a numismatic cabinet.

How do people feel about the proof sets? Would I be missing anything by just ordering future dates that have significance to me (like to commemorate the year of a special event)? I have holes already, so the completeness factor is really not an issue. I just received the latest edition of the Whitman Guidebook to Proof Sets and it is spectacular, so I am a little torn.

What do people think about these sets?

If you do not order one this year, you are missing the opportunity to commemorate the year of the Big One™.

A "worthy" collectible, but I'm image over the mint's price increase. Honestly, these sets are not worth the asking Price of $31.95 ea.

I do not see you being the only one to have given up on the mint and proof sets. image

By the same token, one could say this, along with the end of the 50-State-But-Wait-There's-More Quarters program provides sufficient closure to make this the perfect opportunity for breaking away from the annual purchase of habit.

You're missing a great opportunity to whine and hack about the quality of these coins!
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

...it's just too bad that the prices have gone up and the quality still sucks. you'd think there would be a LOT more

For me they get cracked out every couple years and popped into my Dansco albums. Many have been ruined by the extra exposure to air but they are now unique and more interesting to look at in the album. image

sooo to keep from seeing empty holes I have to continue. image
