<< <i> I was thinking about this earlier today. Maybe the buyer (since he appears to be new to eBay) does not realize what positive feedback means to sellers. I usally just buy on ebay. i do sell a few things to get rid of clutter or extra in order to buy more of the stuff I like. I do understand the frustration of the feedback. I am lucky that I have only 412 feedback which are 100% positive and take great pride in that. I hate to disappoint one person who I might be selling to. I have nothing against MTWcards, I just thought he was suggesting something underhanded. It was my mistake if that is not the case and would like to apologize to MTWcards now if he is still on. It was nothing personal.
72skywalker...What is your ebay seller name? You mention that you take great pride in having 100% positive FB, how would you feel if someone purchased something from you and left neutral or negative feedback even before the product left your door? With the way ebay works there is no way for a seller to win in this situation. As others have said the buyer will not be getting ripped off, they will get a full refund, after they work for it. I do not see how it is ripping someone off.
<< <i>Since he cant hurt you anymore, I would wait until the last possible second to ship his item or better yet, dont send it at all. M ake him go through paypal hoops and ebay hoops to get his refund. >>
I went and looked back at your post to make sure that I did not read it wrong so that I could give you the benefit of the doubt because I felt bad about accusing you of giving the advice of ripping someone off. After further review of the play, the call stands. You did have the intention of not having the seller refund the money but to have ebay or paypal do it for him after putting up a fight. So to me that means ripping the person off by not sending him the product that he paid for. Regardless of whether he would get his money back from a third party I still think it is wrong for a seller to do. You can read it in black and white right above this post. I am not putting words in your mouth.
Remember, I am a moron so I put this all together while drooling all over myself and with my finger in my nose. >>
When an ebay or paypal claim gets paid, who do you think pays that money back to the buyer? Since you do not understand how things work it is probably best to keep the ole mouth shut and learn or ask questions before accusing people of things.
If the seller has no money in the account Pay Pal itself will refund the buyer through it's protection program, ebay too. They will then try to get it from the seller.
So it is possible that a seller could rip off a buyer.

The buyer is not ripped off and the seller is still liable for those funds to ebay/paypal.
The buyer can always force a refund, however they can be limited to up, I think it is, $2000...in the forced refunds where ebay/pay pal pays out.
I imagine only 10% if that would make you force them, as the seller has no choice...so an scammer, or more so scammer account is good for about $20,000, maybe up to $40,000.

<< <i>The buyer is not ripped off and the seller is still liable for those funds to ebay/paypal. >>
The buyer is most certainly ripped off by the seller which is what I said if PP is the one making the buyer whole regardless if the seller is still liable.
Being liable for and actually paying are 2 different things.
My only error in my statement was that PP WILL pay the buyer.
As Storm noted if they find the buyer is eligible.

If the buyer has the money back, regardless of where it comes from, they have not been "ripped off".
<< <i>By October, sellers are in for some fun with the changes in "seller elligibility."
ANY EBAY/PayPal Dispute/Claim filed will give the seller a strike.
Both INR/SNAD disputes/claims are included in the math.
..............
The most seller-friendly abstract seems to indicate that a seller with 400-FB may be able to avoid suspension, following the filing of ONE dispute/claim.
Even high-FB sellers are definitely at risk.

This is very important and I have made note of such about a week ago but I thought I would comment on this again.
The 1 in 400 would make 1 in 400 DIFFERENT buyers. So, if you run 1200 auctions, and 2/3rd's sell, 800...which would be a very high ratio...and you have a person buy more then 1 item from time to time, you cannot have 2 file against you in those 1200 auctions.
You can not have 2 of the wackos you have heard sellers here talking about, or 2 of the buyer that thinks you ripped him off $0.50 shipping (we had 5-6 here on the list that thinks that is an appropriate reason to ding stars or leave negatives), that didn't like the grade on the card, maybe a tiny stratch on the case or the like.
If you thought eBay was getting funner and funner...hold on. Wait till eBay decides it instantly needs $2500 that week for listing fees from a couple of the big guys.
We are going to see a large amount of the big sellers leave. The scammers will likely stay, they have the largest profit margin and desire to sell their product. Buyers will have even more control and will force sellers to give partial refunds and the like. The golden days of eBay ended about four years ago, the silver days are ending now.

I am surprised that the EBAY count is not much higher, with the "free auction special" going on this week.
Even I have listed a few and will add more. I have ZERO bids, but traffic is being sent to my BINs via the auction listings. (My opening bids are set at just below BIN prices.)
Let's see if the "special" has increased PSA listing counts in the auction format:
The coming changes will kill a bunch of sellers, but I am just going to keep moving forward. If I was depending on EBAY for some/all of my "needed" income, I would be worried.
..........................
EDIT ADD:
The "changes" will count the mere filing of a dispute/clam - either INR or SNAD - as a strike against the seller.
INRs are usually caused by the delivery outfits, not by sellers.
We can expect a HUGE hike in the number of "partial refund" demands. When the corrupt buyers learn that they can get a seller suspended simply by FILING a dispute/claim, they will have a new extortion hammer.
It does NOT matter if the seller wins/loses the dispute or claim. The mere filing is the trigger.

I would also protect the card inside a nice padded dirty baby diaper. I would also send it with DC and add the tracking info on paypal site. I had Paypal side with me on 2 dirty diapers that protected cards when they made delivery. Then again that was over 3 years ago. I don't know if they would side with you now but still I like this approach with this buyer. If you don't have access to poop diapers then I recommend whipe your arse with the card after a night at Taco Bell and then mail it out...
