OT but if you would be kind to post a coin for my operation tomorrow morning

ChrisRxChrisRx Posts: 5,619 ✭✭✭✭
After a CT scan it turns out I have a "smoldering appendix" which can explain a lot of symptoms I have been having the past 6 years!

I am nervous as heck. The operation is tomorrow morning at 7:30 am.

So post a coin to take my mind off of this.

I'm glad to see it's at 7:30 - I hate waiting til 10 or later when I have any procedure done, the morning goes so slowly and the nerves get worse. TRUST your doctor and all the staff, they know their jobs and will do their best. Ask all the questions you can think of to sooth your nerves, they're used to it. You're going to feel so much better in a week or two. We don't have to explain pain meds to you, so use the darn things, that's what they're for! Dilaudid is an old friend of mine, has seen me through my ordeal with osteomyelitis, as well as kidney stones, and I will always sing its praises and recommend it highly! Wishing you the very best.

The last couple of operations I had, I was worried sick about being one of those people who "wake up" during the operation, feeling everything but being powerless to do anything about it. Didn't happen!

Here's a coin for you. Good luck, and heal up fast!

I come from the "good ol' days" and my Mother was a nurse.
Back then all the "unnecessary organs" such as your appendix and tonsils
were stripped out when you were a young childimageimage

But, nowadays its a very standard surgery and you should be relaxed but its easier said then doneimage
Try to relax and they always give you great relation med's as soon as you check inimage

Never heard of a smoldering appendix. The only smoldering thing around my body (in the past) was a good joint. Heck nowadays you can get a prescription for that at your hospital when you check out.

I hope you are in the pink in no time at all...

Hey thanks everyone. I don't think I will get much sleep tonight. I guess the way the appendix might be positioned it is not at all "common" so I really hope everything goes well because I have read too many negative posts about it I just hope all is well after this. I admit I am scared but don't really have a choice.

I hope to post back on this thread after this is all over.

My birthday is August 1 too. Happy birthday to me haha.

    But seriously thanks again everyone.

You will be fine Chris. Its like going through a drive through nowadays. Once the anesthesia kicks in you will not feel a thing and then you wake up and the appendix concerned is gone. Good Luck Chris! I am sure you will be home by your birthday. Happy Birthday in advance! image

As long as the Doctor gets a good nights rest all will be well. I would make a couple of notes with a sharpy of what not to cut on, and circle where the apendix is for good measure. image

I am sure all will go well, but i do know the feeling of worry when it comes to operations. I signed form after form for my sons brain surgery at 3, 5 and 9 years of age. He is like every other hard headed teenager nowadays.

I would think after 6 years of issues, the future should be great!!

As long as it hasn't already burst, it's a pretty minor procedure.

Mine exploded and being the stoic I am didn't go to the doctor until two days later. Within an hour I was on the operating table. I was in the hospital for 3 weeks and out of school convalescing at home for 3 more. Missing six weeks of 7th grade didn't seem to cause me any long-term problems.

Don't laugh, it's pretty common procedure now that both the patient and the doctor sign on the skin where the incisions are to be made.

My best friend has his removed via emergency surgery after it ruptured on him. With a little R&R he was back in commission in about a week. Best of luck to you, and don't worry too much... the whole ordeal with be over before you know it.

On a side note joebb21... My mouth literally began salivating at the sight of that coin. I am typically not a fan of that design (commence stone throwing now) but that coin is magnificent. Thanks for sharing.

Hey thanks everybody. You have all been kind and I am trying not to laugh at the funny posts. Even trying to clear my throat shoots sharp pains in my gut. They said my shoulders would hurt as a by-product of the carbon dioxide (think thats what they said) that they were using during the surgery travels up your body to your shoulders when you sit up, and they are a-hurtin' now for sure. Standing up and sitting down are the worst. I have not looked at my stomach yet as I don't want too. They said it will be orange because of the iodine.

They say no activities of any kind... It is hard to just sit-up here and type!
Also said no shower for 48 hours (good thing I wear nice deodarant) image

Anyways enough of my boring babble about all the pain.

I just want to say thanks to everyone here and for thinking of me.

Great to hear you made it through and the surgeons probably did something based on your pain!

I have never had the shoulder pain after surgery, the rods / screws and bone removal from my hip must have over rode the shoulder pain. Getting out of bed 12 hours later for the first walk with 12 screws and 2 rods......

I am glad you are at least typing, i know that gut pain suxs. Hit the morphine drip every 6 minutes....
